Check out www.volunteermatch.org you can search for volunteer opputunities by zip code, interests, etc. If you are interested in something VolunteerMatch sends a message to the organization with your name, e-mail, and phone number and the organizations contact you generally within a week or so and take you through the next steps. Its a great website and there are a ton of listings.
If that doesn't do it for you then you can try checking out:
servenet.org, or americorps.org (typically Americorps programs demand a significant time commitment but they are amazing).
Hope that helps!

Check out sites like www,volunteerabroad.com and www.volunteervisions.org if you are looking for places to volunteer abroad or a way to get inspired.
If you have no idea where to begin, spend some time just exploring "volunteer" online. Your best bet is to find something that you actually care about and then once you have a framework, look for specific ways to help in that area.
