I made a pie for the first time ever and I cooked it as directed but the crust never turned brown, just the same whitish dough color. Any tricks or tips anyone can give would be appreciated.

I made the pie crust home made...flour, crisco, salt, and ice water...I cooked the death out of it! Never turned brown.

It was an apple pie that called for 55 minutes at 350 degrees. I cooked it for at least an hour and a half at 350 and it was still whitish. The crust tasted excellent and was very flaky, just not browned.

KCX, of course! I also made some chocolate chip m&m cookies, no bake oatmeal cookies, and peanut butter cookies!

We start our pies at 400 F for 15 minutes, then turn the oven down to 350 F for the rest of the baking time (normally 45 minutes additional). They come out great. If the edges seem to be getting too brown, cover them with aluminum foil...but I haven't had to do that for years!

You didn't say at what temp or time or type of filling you used, so I'm guessing you baked it all at one temperature. Don't forget to cut some vents in the top crust. I cut an exagerrated R for my last name or P for peach or A for apple, etc. in the top crust before folding it in half to put on the pie.

Sometimes the filling is has too much liquid (like apple pie). You can partially pre-bake the bottom crust or put in on a baking stone that has been pre heated. The crust should brown nicely.

What kind of pie crust did you use? I've made tons of stuff with pie crust and it has ALWAYS turned brown..You just need to put it in the oven longer.
