I've so far tried St. Johns wart, 5-htp, kava, sam -e, valerian root, and gaba...not all at the same time, of course, but taken as directed. None of these have helped me much in calming my nerves. Is there anything else I can try? Please help!

Thanks so much!

One that is not on your list above and is supposed to be one of the best by far for both depression and anxiety is Rhodiola rosea...otherwise known as Arctic root. It doesn't produce drug-herb interactions unlike St Johns Wort and is supposed to be quicker acting. It is a type of adaptogen, like the ginsengs, and works to counteract all types of stress, whether physical, physiological, emotional or mental or otherwise.

I would give this a try.

Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) capsules or tea could help hopefully also with any sleep disorder including anxiety-related sleep disorder.

Also:
Are you getting enough magnesium in your diet? Magnesium is known as the anti-stress mineral. Are you getting enough B Complex in your diet? B Complex vitamins are known as the anti-stress vitamins. I would take both of these in supplement form if you have much stress and anxiety. They both help calm the nerves and help with stress in that connection. Magnesium is best taken with calcium and you can find it in most health food stores in the best ratio: 2:1 calcium to magnesium. For B Complex I would opt for a 50mg Timed-Release variety as this gives a sustained release into your system which is far better as B vitamins are excreted into the urine fairly rapidly.

Hope this helps.
Best wishes.

I found that most depression if one has no real cause is food allergies. Look Up N.A.E.T. on the Internet. You can see what it is all about. It is a simple test they do to see what foods you are allergic then they clear the allergies with acupuncture or also a way without needles if one is afraid of needles. I had it done it changed my life. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me for so long. 99 percent was food allergies. They cause chemical reactions in the brain. But you can get clear of the allergies and still eat the food you like. You will be amazed. Ginko Boloba is an herb that helps depression and all mood disorders. Sometimes people have parasites or candida which is the cause of depression they clear that in NAET also. and also to help with this take raw virgin coconut oil 3 tablespoons a day. You wont get fat from it you will actually loose any excess fat. Look that up too. totally amazing stuff. Hope this helps you they did me.

Thereafter u will ve to learn Reiki and heal ur Chakras. Jayasridevi has given good suggestion, u may follow that. Besides resort to Anulom-Vilom and Kapaal Bhati Pranayaam as taught by Baba Ram Dev on Aastha Channel at 6.00 a.m and supplement with the diet as directed by Baba Ramdev, Yog Guru. A clerk at a natural foods store could steer you in the right direction, but I found that a combination of supplements, such as st johns wort, holy basil, etc. helped - I started taking 4 different ones each day, three times a day, then gently weaned myself off over 6 months. It kinda shocked my system into balancing itself out, and I didn't have to resort to lifetime of drug therapy.

There's a difference in meds when talking about depression and anxiety. I mention anxiety because you said you wanted to calm your nerves. Try this site for a list of all kinds of meds.

Try yoga and accupuncture, but consider conventional medine also. If none of the alternate therapies are working, there are a few anti-depressants that are very safe.

You're gonna kill yourself on all that garbage...try a little laughter...it's free and it works.

St. Johns wort damages the heart.
