Doesn't work that way. The cake is large-part sugar and fats (oils) which your body breaks down for energy. If the body gets more chemical energy than it uses in a day, it converts the extra to fat so survive lean times in the future. You can of course eat cake, but if you eat too much, as with any other fatty or sweet food, you will gain weight.

Everything is fine in moderation. Sure, cake isn't the best dessert choice. Fruit with yogurt/ ricotta would be better, maybe with some cinnamon on the top would be tasty, as good as cake but more healthy. But honestly, eating a piece every once in a while is fine.
After all, it does boost your mood, or make you happy, and your mental state keeps you're physical state in control in a way. I haven't gotten sick more than once a year for the past few years because I realized that your body and mind connect much more than we think. So in a slight way, it's all most good. But fruits and some dairys made the correct way can be much healthier and just as mood boosting. And, make you feel better for eating well.

Depends on the sugar and fat content (ie. cheese cake vs. angel food cake).
Also depends on your activity level. A marathon runner eating a slice of cake will not see an effect like a couch potato eating the same piece. As always, regular exercise and balance with moderation in portions is the answer.

Cake is high in both sugar and saturated fat (bad fat). Sugar is okay in small amounts, but too much can lead to obesity because your body will store the excess.
Saturated fat, if you eat too much (over 25 grams daily), can hurt your arteries and your heart.

I could make a really snappy comment as to why this is one of the stupidest questions I've ever heard but I might get banned.
Cake is empty calories. It's pure sugar with no real nutritional value. It tastes good I'll admit it but the bottom line is is that it's just an empty calorie food, like beer.

Bad as in health wise? - yes. Too much sugar and fat. But good as in mood wise. You can't beat a great Lemon Drizzle or Coffee cake.

a little cake really does no harm, wont even have you put on weight, but the trouble is cake is loaded with sugar and sugar leads to sugar cravings in the healthiest of person, making it har to say no to another /piece/slice and its then you have the health risks and weight issues.
Sugar addiction is a big deal! companies earn millions from it, even mc donalds put sugar in thier burger buns!
