Overall, I would say there are more differences between French and Spanish culture than between French and English culture. The Spanish are not like the other Europeans. For instance, I can't think of anything in French culture that compares with the Tomatina (Tomato) Festival, Flamenco dancing, the art of Dalí and Picasso, machismo, bullfighting or the belief in duendes.

Also, one must not forget that England has a partly Norman French heritage and that the motto of the British monarchy is still a French one: Dieu et mon droit ("God and my right").

Spanish. It is a Latin culture like the French one (English is a Germanic culture).

To another poster - How does Spanish and French both being European make them closer than French to English (which is also European)?

Spanish. Simply because they are touching borders, its bound to be a culture mix with bordering countries. For example, Texican (Mexico and US), etc ,etc. Also they are both Romance languages unlike English being a Germanic/Romance+more mix. The English had many conflicts with the French prior to the 20th century, so enemies dont usually mix too well. As for the US, the only place in the US with lots of French influence (it really isnt that much anymore) is Louisiana.

French and Spanish are closer. I say this because I watched a Spanish Movie, "Lovers of the Arctic Circle," and it reminded me of the French movies I like to watch. And French movies are nothing like British movies.

None of them and usually French people wouldn't consider themselves close to Spanish or any other European culture for as much proud nationalist and sciovinist they are.
