I had a defect with my kidney when I was younger, and I had it removed. I know for a fact that this is a disqualifying condition for joining the military, but I'm curious if I could get a waiver for it.

So, is there a chance that I'll be able to join the military? If so, how slim are those chances?

Absence of one kidney, acquired or congenital, is disqualifying for enlistment or appointment.

see AR 40-501, Chapter 2, para. 2-15(f)(1)

Apply if you must, but what the services are looking for are deployable bodies. It would be an unacceptable risk to deploy you. I doubt you'd get the waiver approved, but you never know until you try.

Air Force will give you a waiver for almost anything. I have a friend who is an Air Traffic Controller (tower) who failed depth perception and got a waiver... that would make mw think there's a definite chance

Since you have only one kidney you are disqualified from enlisting. There will be no waiver granted since any renal trauma or disease in your case could be fatal.

You fall into a high risk category, one in which the Pentagon frowns upon. Once you are accepted, the Pentagon assumes responsibilty for your physical condition. I doubt that you will be accepted, on this basis !

which branch? AF, CG, Navy and Marines, your chances are about zero. Army and National Guard, slightly higher.
