When I got a C in my test, they give me an hour lecture on how they came to America, struggling blah blah blah,
(my parents are Asian). But they always supported me on my job and college.

My dad screamed at me for a B- once, is that strict to you?

My parents were always extremely strict about that sort of thing but then they always had a carrot as well as a stick. Eg - bad grade equals a talking to but good grade gets equals a present. I'd have to say that they probably got the balance about right.

In your case a C in one test is not the end of the world - whatever your parents think - and *probably* shouldn't (on its own) warrant a whole hour of lecture. I'm guessing from their reaction, however, that you are usually capable of A grades, so the best things to do would be:

a) Examine the circumstances as to why this particular test went wrong.

b) Ensure that these circumstances do not occur again.

c) And when, and only when, you've got your next A, explain to your parents what went wrong with the test you got the C for (don't explain before you get the next A, they'll think your just making excuses however sincere you are).

Parents are like that just understand their point that they are striving hard to send you to a good school and they will react to you like that. Your parents have high expectation from to you due to their own valid reasons. You see they still support you on your job and college because they still love you as their child that's why their doing it. On your side just tell them that your doing your best that you can it's only that subject wasn't easy for you no matter how you strive your very best and you can tell that to your parents so that they can understand your side also. Maybe your parents would though that your not that serious with your studies instead with other things like your job. Once in a while you need to air your side to your parents if needed so that they will know on what to do.

My mom was strict when I was young, but these days with my siblings... not so much. I once mentioned to her that some of my friends got rewards (like cash) for good grades. She replied with an explaination that rewards aren't given for the expected, and that she expected me to do my best, and MY best better be no lower than straight As.
