If you overstay B2 (tourist) status- which is 180 days within a years time frame, yes- you will be an overstay and therefore illegally in the US.

Fleur has the right answer. Canadians do not require a visa to visit the US and vice versa. At present by land a passport is not required, by air it is. Americans have vacation homes in Canada, and Canadians have homes in the US. It is possible for a Canadian to live in the US perfectly legally with relatives or in their own home for up to 180 days per year.
Some of my American relatives have spent extended times with us, some of my Canadian relatives have stayed in the US for extended periods. It has all been quite legal.

Yes. Unless the use the legal process of obtaining a visa. It does not matter what contry someone is from, illegal is illegal. Someone from the USA must obtain a similar visa to live in Canada.
