We are in our 30's, wanting good yoga centre, vegetarian food, organics, and clean green air. I'm a chef and my partner is a commercial diver. We like live shows, friendly people, and good wages. Wanting to know from local people what suburb and what's it like living there.

Well, perth is over the otherside of Australia from sydney and melbourne and brisbane, which can be frustrating at times. Especially if you want to go on short trips to other cities because you are here only for a year. Perth is also a lot more expensive than brisbane for renting and living costs. The only city more expensive than Perth is Sydney. A good thing about perth is that it has the south west region of western australia, therefore best beaches in australia, and the weather isn't nearly as humid as brisbane. From Brisbane it would be much easier to visit sydney and melbourne, and renting costs are cheaper. I've never been to brisbane, but some people love it because it has the gold and sunshine coasts, but others think the city of brisbane itself is boring. I would defnately recommend a car in both perth and brisbane especially if you live further than 20 minutes drive from the cbd.

I live in Perth and have visited Brisbane. I love both cities and they will both offer you what you want. Why not visit both for at least a week on holiday and have a look? I think you can get a real feel for a place by doing that. One thing about Brisbane is it hardly ever rains and they have a severe water problem over there, it's not as bad as here, but I love rain and I was glad to come home and feel it! However, Brisbane is closer to Sydney and Melbourne and Queensland is a fantastic State with all of it's wonderful islands, Great Barrier Reef, etc. Perth is probably a bit quieter and probably has less pollution. Have you ever seen the Swan River? It's gorgeous! Wages are very high in Perth at the moment as there is an economic boom on. We need more of everyone!! However, it is true that housing has become much more expensive, although the market has dropped off in the last couple of months. There's good and not so good about both cities!~

I have lived in Brisbane for 30 years, and absolutely love it! if you move to some of the outer suburbs (Sunnybank, Moggill, Goodna, Redbank), the air is a lot fresher than in the actual city. These suburbs are about 30 minutes out of the CBD.
There is a yoga centre about 15 minutes drive from Goodna in Forest Lake.
Brisbane has many restaurants, so i'm sure theres something you can find there.
Hope this answers your questions!
Good luck.

I'm here in Perth and quite happy. Meanwhile, I know someone who hates it here and loves Brisbane. Look into Perth's western suburbs....we can accommodate your interests in yoga, clean air, some vegetarian and plenty of fresh markets. I *think* you'd find work as a chef. I know your diving partner could prob find employment with mining/oil exploration companies. As for live shows....Perth is still considered pretty dull but I think that's a myth. It's out there if you want it. Cheers.

I visited Perth for the first time recently. It's GORGEOUS. The most beautiful city I've ever visited. BUT it's very expensive to live there - I heard on the TV that Perth is the most expensive city in Australia to live in. Rent and house prices are through the roof at the moment. But I guess that's the price you pay to live in such a beautiful place. :o) Perth has everything you could ever want.

Haven't been to Brissy yet though sorry.

You could live in Mandurah....it's a growing city south of Perth (1hr) and is linked by train. It has all of what you mentioned.
