Yikes! I know how painful that is...
If you take your meds and it hurts just a little, sleeping helps a bit. If it's extremely painful you might have something stuck in the sockets or an infection. If you keep having a lot of pain call the dr who did it because that's most likely the problem.

I'm a dental assistant and we usually tell people to take 2 tylenol with 2 Advil together. Their synergistic, so they work well together. Also take a wet wash cloth, put it into the microwave for about a minute and then rub both sides of your jaw, this will make it feel better. P.S. your doctor should have prescribed something for you. Oh, and whatever you do, don't suck through a straw!! i just realized ur dr. did give you Vicodin, so try what I said if that doesn't work, you need to call the office.

Take your pain meds and ibuprofen. The pain meds will help the pain (obviously) and the ibuprofen helps with inflammation. For the first day or 2 you should take both every 4-6 hours. (unless your doctor advises against this) Usually it's best to just take the meds, on schedule- especially w/ the ibuprofen- don't wait for it to hurt.

The dentist told me to apply ice packs to my cheeks for the first day... and then warm cloths to help with the swelling. The pain meds didn't help me much but the ice packs did. Infact, it actually numbed the pain. I'm not sure how strong your dosage is but if you're under a lot of pain, call your dentist. Maybe you need a stronger dosage. Good luck. :)

Aside from the pain meds, all you can really do is wait it out. Try putting ice packs on your cheeks to help minimize the swelling, which will help reduce pain.

It's awful, I know. I had a wisdom tooth pulled a month ago. Not fun.

If your pain meds are not working, then maybe you should contact your dentist and ask for something different. It is mostly something that you will have to suffer through. You will not be free of pain constantly, that is not how pain pills work. Good luck.

Nothing, I had mine out a few years ago and it wouldn't stop. You just have to deal with it and try and do stuff to take your mind off it. It'll go away eventually, just be patient!
