I hope you learned a valuable lesson, and give a new definition to the word Friend. The car is in your name. Whose name are the license plates under?. If the plates are under your name, then you can still go after her for theft by deception.

Now you know why finance is a risky business.

Sounds like a civil case, not a criminal one, although if she is hiding the car, it may be getting close.

I would hire an attorney for a couple hundred bucks to send her a letter laying down the law, notifying that she has x days to return the car, and get paid up in full, or face the consequences.

Follow the attorney's advice on the best way to eliver the notice.

Then, since she will certainly do neither, you will have grounds to file suit in the appropriate court as the attorney advises, and also possibly grounds to report the car stolen at that point.

If you are hiring a lawyer to help with your home mortgage you should also ask if there is any way you can get the car back through the courts ie.. small claims. Regardless talk to a lawyer about the situation. There are many ways of tracking where your friend has gone. Internet has many resources to find that persons previous and current addresses and phone numbers.

Depending on how much you are willing to pay - have you considered hiring a repo company to get it? I have no idea what their costs are - but if the bank could hire them, so could you. It may be worth looking into.

Follow her home when she gets a ride. Notify the police that you are in the process of retrieving your property first though, so you can't be charged with stalking.
