If youre atheist, can you give some good examples as to why faith is stupid. And If youre a theist (christian, muslim etc..) can you tell me why it makes sense to believe in something with absolutely no evidence to support it.

Having blind faith is ignorant. I am an Atheist because I studied religion & text & found that with the facts & evidence gathered from my studies that there was no God. However, others have studied & found themselves closer to their God. I believe it EXTREMELY ignorant to put blind faith in something you know nothing about. I have met so many so-called xians that don't even realize Christ isn't Jesus' last name, but his title. I suppose if you know exactly what you are believing in then having faith in it is fine, but to remain ignorant & just believe is beyond stupid.

Between those two things, it's the unsound reasons to believe. There may be some interesting ideas that would be cool if they turn out to be correct - if a sensible reason can be given that supports the possibility, it might be intriguing enough to keep in mind. For me, the number one reason I could no longer believe was that the big, loud believers are fooling themselves, and teaching things to others that are clearly untrue. The chief of these is the idea that the Bible contains a single, harmonious message, that it makes sense, and that the Bible is some kind of collection of historical documents that are factual and may be trusted. If they want to base their enthusiasm on something else, like unusual experiences they've had, that could be a little different. That would effectively make them mystics, which I would actually find kind of intriguing. But the fact that they tenaciously claim that it's all based on what anyone who examines can see is false (the Bible, and it's supposed consistency, morality, and power), and that it is not mysticism of any kind... those who cling to those errant ideas can no longer maintain my respect as having any sort of meaningful and functional way of life or source of wisdom.

Having faith in a certain religion isn't stupid at all. It is about believing in a higher power and knowing and trusting that there is some sort of life after death. Having faith in religion gives meaning to a persons life. It encourages a moral lifestyle and gives hope during the hardest life experiences. It is impossible to rationalize everything that happens in the world and human beings will never have the answers to anything.

Atheists have faith that they are right about there being no God, even though they have no proof. So what? The same thing on the other side of the street?

Tell me, when you wake up in the morning, do you have to wonder if your shoes are still there? Do you have faith that you will wake up in the place you fell asleep or do you have to wonder every morning whether gravity will work?

If it's stupid to have faith, then are you feeling stupid too?
If not, then you trust in things too. You might not have faith in God, but you have faith in other things.

Believing anything without evidence is not wise at all. I do not know what examples you want, but the Bible indicates from beginning to end (Genesis to Revelation) that the sky is a solid dome a few miles above us and will roll up like a scroll and shake loose stars that are small lights attached to it. That is childish rubbish. Two verses indicate that pi is 3.00, so I cannot use the Bible in engineering work. It says God inspired David's census and later says the Devil did it. Jesus' birth date is given eleven years apart in two parts of the Bible.

Well, ever had a gut feeling or instinctive response to something? When people say you should listen to your gut or follow your instinct, they are telling you listen to or follow something which cannot be proven scientifically and is not something which can be seen or touched, heard or tasted. Still, it is very real and people are wise to listen to their gut because it often steers them out of a dangerous or foolish situation. The same holds true with faith. Sure, it can't be seen. Still, I would respectfully disagree with you that there is no evidence to support my faith. There is plenty of evidence. Archeologists, scientists, historians and anthropologists have proven many times over things in the Bible which I base my faith upon. Now if you are saying that faith itself can't be proven, you would be correct. If that is the case, then I would refer you to what I originally said, which is that one must listen to their gut because it often steers us out of danger or foolish situations. Likewise, faith keeps me on the path in life where I am able to find the greatest happiness. What could possibly be wrong with that?

have you searched for this question in Yahoo answers? You'd be reading for days on atheism & religion and their reasons....Is having your name on a question that important to hear the same answers given over & over? And to top it all off you have to throw the word stupid in there.....that is original. You too are on my prayer list

You get alittle testy when someone actually points out your ignorance in using the word faith and stupid in the same question. Faith is just that. Faith in the Lord our God, not needing to have to prove with evidence that should already be in your heart. Trying to prove faith to the unfaithful is almost always fruitless. Especially when we are being called stupid.

I don't need evidence to believe in a God because that is what faith is. I know he is there i can feel him and that's all the evidence i need.

Faith is a mixture of "wishful thinking" and "intuition" but there is nothing inherent about it that would lead one to believe it is a valid method of attaining knowledge.

Faith is to believe the unseen, but still the truth

Only an ignorant person thing otherwise.
