I don't get along with my dad?

he doesn't hit me or anything, it's like he avoids me. I'm also scared of him.
any advice?

I grew up the same way, here is what I did. I ignored my dad until it was to late. I avoided him like he avoided me. He scared me so I stayed out of his way. Now he is gone. And in his will he stated his one regret was not spending enough time with me. And that we didn't have a good relationship. Talk to you dad, make him understand and figure out why he avoids you in full truth. Don't take time for granted.

Whenever you see him, say "hi dad" "how was your day?" "Was there any trouble at work?"Are you afraid of your mom? Or maybe you have a trusted family friend? Because if you're not, then spend some quality time with them more, so he gets more used to how you act and how you fair in conversations. It won't be so awkward if there's someone else there to lighten up the mood. If you go with this plan, make sure that the third party is aware of your intentions, so they can help you and support you throughout that time.

Why are you scared of your father, if he doesn't hit you? Do you try and talk to him, some people don't know how to interact with their family, because it was not done with them. You might have to be the one to ask your Dad to go do some things with you, and get to know him. Try it, all he can say is no.

I can guarantee he had this same relationship with his father. Why are you scared. he probably doesn't know how to approach you as well. Does he deny you of attention when you ask for it?
