Hydrogen peroxide is too harsh for a new piercing so I would recommend you stick with the salt soaks twice daily. If you feel you must, you can use Savlon's wound wash to disinfect the area twice a day as well but that would be a bit of an overkill to be honest. Hope that helps.

Hey, I am a nurse in an orthopedics unit. Sometimes when patients fracture (break) bones, they use a type of cast with pins. These pins go through the skin to hold the bone pieces in place and they always reminded me of a piercing. Anyways, we treat these pins with half hydrogen peroxide and half normal saline and this solution really does wonders. You can look up 'pin care' or 'external fixation' I would imagine that since both piercings and pins are essentially the same that the hydrogen is not too harsh on the skin. Make sure its dilute though.

NO! not good, and it doesn't allow the scar tissue to form. Didn't your piercer give you proper instructions...assuming you went to a good one. Go to a reputable piercing studio and buy some proper aftercare products. You have to be careful about piercing studios, I don't know what it's like in the states, but in Canada, you don't need a licence to pierce, meaning anyone can be a piercer.

Peroxide, alcohol, and any types of ointments should NEVER be used on piercings.
Peroxide & alcohol are faaar too harsh, and kill not only the bad cells, but the good cells as well. This will lead to nothing but irritation and discomfort, as well as slow your healing process.
Same goes for ointments, except they block oxygen, which is needed for healing.

salt water will work much better, but if it is really hurting or looks infected u could try a bit of dilute hydrogen peroxide, or savlon cream works well!

actually sweetz it depends on your skin type. reguardless of how u clean it, your must let it get AIR. all piercings actually. peroxide does indeed work but it's also best not to use chemicals. soap and water at first. then work your way up until you're satisfied.
