Christians, you've got to know that Hindu faith or Ásatrú faith is just as strong as yours. As powerful and steadfast and reassuring as your conviction is, so too is the Hindu's or the Ásatrúar's. As doubtless and sincere as you are, so too are the Hindus and the Ásatrúars.

How is their faith any different than yours?

And if you answer by saying "because my God is real and their gods aren't", I'll know that you didn't understand the question.

the old dog, and what made you decide that the only "valid" faith will be placed in a messiah?

It's not. In my opinion no religion is more or less valid than any other religion. Or even lack of religion for that matter. There are many different paths in life and to expect that yours is the only correct path and everyone else has the wrong one is a little egocentric.

Added: John D- The point though is that Hindu's and Asatruar's (sorry I am ignorant and dont know how to put the little things above the letters lol) have those things too. They both KNOW they have the religion that is right as well. so how are they any different?

As another user above me stated, all religions make claims about the truth. If there is exactly one god, there is exactly one god, and polytheistic and atheistic religions have got that aspect wrong. Similarly, if there are many gods, then monotheists are incorrect in this aspect.

The problem is, no-one actually knows for certain which point of view is true in disagreements like these. I think an openminded religious person should believe what they believe, but also accept that they may be wrong (and most probably are) about aspects of their beliefs. Equally, they should disagree with other religions, but acknowledge that they most likely contain elements of truth, and may be "more correct" in parts.

I believe all religions have certain elements of truth in them however I don't believe they all tie. Emotional conviction is important, but it isn't evidence for the validitity of anything. Religions make truth claims, and either there claims are true or they are not. Christianity claims Jesus was a sinless man who died on a cross and rose again. Either this is true or it isn't. A hindu may say that evil is not real and pain and suffering are just illusions. Either this claim is true or it is not. They may say God is you and God is me and God is a tree and God is all, and a Christian may say God created all but is not all. Religions make 'real' truth claims. These truth claims contradict one another. They can not be equally true since they contradict one another. I respect other religions-i even find other cultures beautiful but it would be illogical to say that all religions are equally true. I believe in Jesus. I didn't used to (I used to be an atheist) but I choose Jesus based on history, and what I believe to be true about human nature. I can not prove it-I can just say my faith is reasonable-and my faith has made a difference in the creature I am becoming. Now I will continue to respect other cultures/ even learn from them but I do not believe that we all tie in the truth column. (this is pointless/ politically correct thinking) I chose Christ because I believe it is the singular truth however people are free to disagree and choose otherwise, but we can' t pretend this is like math and we all have equal sums. Our beliefs make claims about reality-the claims are either true or not true.

You shouldn't treat any faith as "more valid". Everyone is entitled to their own and no one should be held against it. People should keep those things to themselves. I'm definately not one to favour in prejudice! If only people kept an open mind...and less negativity this world would be a much better place.

I don't look at anyone's faith as "less valid" than mine. I just look at my own as being the one that "fits" or best explains to me personally. Truth is way too big to be contained in any one age, let alone in a single mind. So to presume I have the whole truth would be pretty arrogant.

Peace to you.

Because Asatruars are WAY cooler. Duh

I dont' discount thier faith. I only ask they do the same. But they don't, so yeah I get a little pissy with them at times. Not all of them obviously. But the ones who will answer this question in their usual branwashed stupidity? Yeah those are the ones.

To the people above me who stated if you ask god to reveal himself, then he will. Do you honestly not think I didn't do the same? That my gods haven't revealed themselves to me? Or will you insult me, my intelligence, and my gods by blaming YOUR devil.

Without proof the word valid does fir with any religion. The explanation why one God is more real then the next is no better then "because I said so"

I feel that all should be treated with equal respect. I don't think down of anyone who tries to find spiritual peace and better themselves. I am christian. Either way, God's message is LOVE.

Their faith is no different. I personally think those of us who have a religion all worship the same Entity. We just give it different names and attributes that can be comprehended by the peoples or region it's in or originated in.

Great question.

To answer, I'd say you follow the path that calls to you, and respect the others for the positive things they've done for their adherents.

Really, an excellent question. Star for you!
