Not at all--in fact, atheists (of which I am one), who you'd likely agree are the group with the lowest percentage of 'believers in an afterlife,' tend to value life, and in turn, value peace the most, simply because they do not believe there is a "part 2" after death. When one doesn't believe in an afterlife, one would work harder to protect the one and only life they 'believe' in--makes sense, doesn't it?
Here's another way of looking at it--peace and values, even through the 'lens' of a purely evolutionary standpoint (not contrasting evolution with belief in an afterlife), make us more successful and robust as a species. Altruism is like the primary moral that was naturally selected.

If there is a religious answer, the concept of peace and values is reenforced by the mystery surrounding an after-life. Whoever invented religion is the greatest law-enforcement persona in the history of the planet -- his/her influence will endure forever, making we fragile beings (at least the ones with functioning brains) think twice about crime and sin.

didn't follow the link, but peace and values are useful to live among our fellow Humans. Without them can you imagine what life would be like? Well, you can, go have a look in certain parts of the world where those have disappeared.

Well, as many differences I have with Islam, I think that has a grain of truth to it.
However, tell me how they expect to have peace when they say 'Jihad' (which means 'struggle') is supposed to be the order of the day?!
Peace means ceasing to struggle! But I find that typical for Muslims who think with that kind of pseudo - logic.
The Muslim's are constantly applying that kind of double - talk.

Why do you need an afterlife? You had no problem in the millions of years before you were born, why should it be a problem when you die?
