actually this was pretty well reported before the war started... remember when bush went on tv and called him out, (ala a freaking western movie), giving him i think 24 or was it 48 hours to leave?
saddam replied that he would leave, (stating publicly that he would not but privately that he would if it would avoid conflict), and then Bush rejected it... why are peoples memories so short in the US?
the simple fact is that Bush was going to invade iraq no matter what saddam did. He demanded that the weapons inspectors be allowed in so saddam allowed it, (remember when bush gave the inspectors 12 hours to leave). He demanded that saddam leave and he said he would, etc.
it was a damn 3 ring circus leading up to this war.

I heard this too. The Bush administration gave Saddam Hussein 2 days to leave Iraq or we would attack. What was the hurry? Another country almost had him talked into leaving by paying him a billion $ or so. I don't know if his sons would have also left or not. That wasn't mentioned in anything I've read. I would assume the whole family would have left.
When I compare this to what I've read about Saddam in the past, I really doubt that he would have left but I would like to have given him a bit more time to consider things before attacking and occupying this country. His army gave up in 1990 rather than fight the U.S. Without Saddam, I don't think there would have been a fight.

Are you saying, Saddam said this before we went into his country?
My husband and I followed the whole thing ever since G.W. Bush's dad was president and the Desert Storm conflict. I assure you that this is not true.
Saddam truly thought in his head that by spreading the word that he was armed to the teeth, that the USA would not dare go into Iraq. He was shocked and amazed when overnight we were at his door.
His two sons were worse than Saddam. The world is better off with these three men gone.

Exile? To where? Bin Ladins summer place? It was not acceptable because he would still have had resources and influence that would have been a threat to the United States and other countries.

not only was Saddam a threat to wage war on the US, but war on his own people and on the surrounding nations. We didn't go in just for ourselves.

He was found hiding in a hole. He made no attempt to leave Iraq after his government fell. He had his "Information" Minister on TV every day denying US troops were getting closer and closer to Baghdad. Hell, in one shot you could see US tanks on the horizon while he said it. He made attempt to leave before his government fell.
He committed atrocities against the Iraqi people. He needed to stand trial before them. He need to be held accountable before them. And he was.
Rather than that, you'd rather him living in exile spewing hatred and vitriol against America, rousing up more terrorists to strike the US, and waging a proxy war to retake his throne?
You libs amaze me. You accuse President Bush of being a murder, terrorist, war monger. By extension, and sometimes directly, you accuse our troops of being the same thing. Yet you defend Saddam as some kind of misunderstood soul who just deserved to be listened to and live in peace in some beach resort.

Oh sure, he was offered exile at the last minute and I believe Bahrain offered him a safe place to stay. But for all it's worth in spite of the odds, he wanted to stay.

Don't you think he could have run his murdering regime from anywhere in the world? No comment on the war though. I support our troops. End of story.

He said he would leave for a billion dollars
I still support that we have gone over there, and:
1. Killed him
2. Eliminated / captured terrorists
3. PREVENTED more attacks
