Like any other plan I'm reducing mileage but its making me want to run faster. Should I give in to the urge or just take it nice and slow? I've heard reducing volume and increasing intensity is good but with the marathon so close is that a good idea now?

So how close is the marathon?
The time before the race determines what you should be doing.

If you have done your last long run and are running shorter days you are tapering.
You need to maintain the conditioning but allow your legs and body to be fresh for the marathon.

You can run faster than your race pace, just don't race those days.

Run relaxed, run how you feel.
If it is this week then run about race pace, if it is next week then run faster.

It is good to save your legs for the race, but if you only run slow you will race slow.

Don't leave your chances for a comfortable marathon on the streets the week before it starts..... 'nuff said....

P.S. Save the speed work for after the marathon.
