TOLERANCE (old definition) – to recognize and respect other people’s beliefs/practices without sharing with them OR to bear or to put up with someone or something that is not especially liked.

TOLERANCE (new definition) – every single individual’s beliefs, values, lifestyles, and truth claims are equally true and are to be accepted and appreciated.

Christians: do you have ANY clue what the ramifications of this is?

Here, open your eyes and behold:
To say that Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven and proclaim Him as such to others in love will get you labeled as a fanatic, a bigot, and intolerant.

The number one known Bible verse in the world has transitioned from John 3:16 to Matthew 7:1!

Sharing the Gospel of grace of the Lord Jesus Christ (as God COMMANDS you to do) with non-believers is now considered INTOLERANT and fostering HATE CRIMES. It is but a *blink* away from being considered ILLEGAL. You will NOT be able to “hide” behind the “First Amendment Rights” when so-called “proselytizing” falls under the category of a “hate crime”.

SO CHEER UP, ATHEIST!

Pretty soon, buggers like ME will be thrown in JAIL because I CARE FOR YOU and feel compelled by the LOVE OF CHRIST to share the Gospel with you! I don’t want to see you burn in hell for all eternity!

...and in jail, my mouth will be muzzled so that you won’t have to hear me!

Can I get an “AMEN!” from all the atheists, for the FIRST time ever?!?

To quote Kate above (I disagree with her, btw):
"But your idea of tolerance it seems to me is to tell someone.
'Well, I respect your beliefs but you're still going to hell for them.'To an atheist like myself that sounds like,
'Well I respect you as a person but I'm still not letting you drink from my water fountain.'"

First of all, If you don't believe in hell, then why would it be offensive! (that is just whiny)
Secondly, If you take away someone's rights to drink out of the same water fountain - it would and should offend!
The two statements she made do not compare at all!

Hell does not affect any earthly rights - only the idea
conflicts I suppose (hurts feelings perhaps but should
not if one does not believe anyway - and also hurts the ideas that are being attempted for the birth of the "new world order") - so I guess the idea is being targeted ,
that is the underlying motive, which, in itself,
is great intolerance (goes against itself anyway -
is self refruting).

There are physical and financial things that are
discrimination, and then there is the table of ideas!
Let's bring ALL ideas to the table and quit calling
Christians bigots just because they seek something
that is spiritual AND redeems mankind!
Let's not be afraid to give Christians a seat.
Any reasons not to give them that refrutes the very idea of
tolerance and world peace anyway - so if you
really want those things (tolerance/world peace -
go all the way with it...

And yeah, the greatest commandment (in the Bible)
is, first to love God and then to love others (priorities).
To love is not the same as tolerate!
There is no commandment: "Thou shalt tolerate!"
There is also no commandment to accept
everyone's sin - but help them get rid of it (in a loving
way - and we should first get rid of our own sin so
not to by hypocritical)!
Immorality in society needs to be targeted also.
Pushing morality is not the same as pushing religion
even though the religious tend to be the ones to push morality (because of strong convictions)!
All laws are based on morality - it is impossible to
have a law that is not based on morality issues!
Take Care!
I am staying at work way too late now - have to leave to
cook my husband dinner!

I'm an atheist, but cannot agree on this assertion for many reasons.

Firstly, I do not personally believe anyone should be put in jail for stating their opinions -- whether racist, nationalist, sexist or otherwise -- because censorship is one of the few things I consider truly evil. Also, I have a right not to listen to anyone whom I don't agree with, and, believe me, I frequently exercise that right.

Secondly, the only people trying to change the constitution, from what I know, are conservative Christians. They're the ones who want church service to be in every public sphere of life, including the schools, courts and anywhere else they can fathom. So, as far as I can see, you're not in any danger from atheists.

Thirdly, societies change all the time. We are a multicultural society, like it or not, so we cannot promote one religion or way of life over another. If we would promote one way of thinking above another, that would be the definition of unconstitutional.

Fourthly, there are always civil liberty unions, the ACLU for instance, that would die to represent you if you were ever in prisoned for expressing an opinion. Despite what many Christians have said, the ACLU has supported Christians.

On another subject; proselytizing can be annoying, so maybe that's why you were threatened with jail.

No, sorry, it hasn't changed. It still means putting up with what you don't agree with. What has changed is a general willingness to listen and UNDERSTAND what is different (with the consequent risk that one might actually come to like it).

You may be familiar with the biblical parable of the wheat and the tares (weeds). The farm workers were told not to pull up the weeds and risk damaging the wheat. Sorting was reserved until harvest when God would make the decisions. Thus it is with tolerance. Jesus is the only way-- for YOU.

Forcing YOUR understanding of "salvation" on everyone else is intolerance. Sharing it is not. But we've heard your version for years. We'd like to hear other people's versions and get a better idea of the diversity of opinions. We don't want them to impose THEIRS either. But tolerance means allowing others to exist and continue, even if you think they're crazy and doomed. They don't try to take you over and you leave them alone too. The only time intolerance is justified is when people are not allowed a choice. But you will have to consider the consequences of interference to decide if it's worth it, and that will take understanding, which may make you uncomfortable.

Freedom of religion is a joke anymore. It seems like American's make fun of Christians but you had better not make fun of any other religion. Now that would be intolerance!! I hate to see anyone go to Hell but it is a real place and I think there will be way more people there than in Heaven. That is definately not the way God wants it! But the athiests asked for it!!

This "new" tolerance is spoken of in the bible.

The most notable verses are:

Revelation 2:
6
But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

&

Revelation 2
14
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
15
So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.

+-+

There are Pastors that suggest Christians use Allah so as to ease tensions. These cast a stumbling block and blur the truth of God Almighty.
There are lukewarm anything goes "reverends" who tell who they teach to accept the "anything goes" lifestyle. This is of the Nicolatians.

Jesus gave strong message that this is unapproved. Read on:
16
Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Where do you guys come up with this crap? You are not losing any rights you can still pray and do what you want. The government is loosing its ability to practice your religion. And you can still preach your "word", and now I can tell you to shut the hell up, without worrying about repercussions. I'm a little older then allot of people here and I remember being punished for not wanting to pray in school,I have also had the crap beaten out of me by christians for my beliefs.Seems to me you have a problem with diveristy and respect for other beliefs. you would rather force people to do things they don't like. You sound like an fanatical intolerant bigot.

So, are you cool with the idea of a Hindu or Muslim or Gay or Democrate knocking on your door on Sunday morning and telling you all about how happy you will be if you change to be like them?
