daycare bill for my son? I have lost my job and receive no financial help. He attends a catholic daycare that has given me 3 weeks to pay or he can't come back. If I have no solution, I'll be out of school and I am half way done. I have received scholarships and a Pell grant that paid my tuition.

The state will not aid in daycare costs for college, only work. I have a social worker.

Have you contacted the local workforce office in your area? The agency cares about helping single parents become more self sufficient and should have an emergency fund. They can help with childcare, food stamps, WIC, medicaid (health insurance), and cash assistance. They should be in the blue pages of the telephone book under state government services or agencies. Good luck!

Dear Golden, By all means, buy a home before the end of the year so that you will be eligible for available credits and financial assistance! Go to a mortgage banking association and get "pre-approved" for a loan. The mortgage company will delve into your complete financial situation and let you know how much of a loan they will approve for your home purchase. If there is a problem with your credit or financial picture, the mortgage company should be able to tell you what you need to do to to qualify for a loan. If you don't know where to start this process, you can contact a real estate company in your city and they will direct you, hoping to get commission on an upcoming sale. I managed a real estate company and we used to say that, "If you have a willing buyer and a willing seller, you have a deal". Become a willing buyer and a real estate agent will make it happen for you, if at all possible. If you purchase a home: Do not waive the "inspection". Do not ignore the Attorney's Opinion. Get an Electrical-mechanical-plumbing warranty from the buyer. Make 1/2 house payment every two weeks (save years on loan). Make principal-only prepayments if possible. As far as the school loan is concerned, just pay it off as contracted for and live with it for as long as you have to. If the interest rate is high, consider this when you are paying off your debts (highest interest rate first). Good luck and make good decisions. Dolores
