Sign and date it. Based on current copyright laws, if you do that, it's in theory copyrighted by you, and you can dispute anyone who claims that it's theirs.

On the website, it says "Joining ASCAP is a critical step in your career in music. By joining ASCAP you can begin to register your songs, collect performance royalties and take advantage of many exclusive career benefits. There is a one time, nominal processing fee of $25 to apply for ASCAP membership, but there are no annual dues. You can join as a writer or a publisher or both - the processing fee is $25 for each application. This fee is non-refundable. "

I'm guessing this means that you join, and then once you have joined, they'll give you more information on how to copyright your music and poetry.

ASCAP will collect performance royalties, but you have to get your own copyrights. ASCAP is an organization just for music composers so they will be helpful with your needs if your become a member.

Well if it’s an mp3 you use a mp3/mp4 “Tag Editor” and add copyright©2007 and your name as a tag. If it’s a Gif image then you can use something like “Paint Shop Pro and add a comment” with your name and that it’s copyrighted. As you save your image with some type of image editing software then typically it gives you some type of options to add comments to the file your saving. You can all-so “water mark” your images.

Log on to copyright.gov/ and read the instructions pertaining to music and lyric copyrighting.

Each submission to the Library of Congress will cost about $35 and will take eight months to get the registered certificate. Include as many songs on each submission as you can.

Read carefully what can be submitted--sheet music, tapes, CDs, lyrics and their forms.
