My hubby has lost the key 2 his van, there isnt a spare and the handbook can't be found. So, not only can he not get into the van he can't move it or get a new key cut. A locksmith is no use as he can only get it open but he still needs a key 2 drive! Help if you can!!!!!!

contact the dealer. Preferably the one who sold it originally as they may still hold the key number on the sales receipts. If not, you can request a new key from your local dealer.If your van is less than 10 years old it will certainly have a transponder chip in it. Big money time. Some insurance policies can cover loss of keys - check with them first. No easy way round it. Unless it's a much older van - get the key number and get a locksmith to make you five!!

you should be able to get a replacement from your dealer.
if you lose your master key and you don't have a spare, you may need to replace the body control module or at least have it reprogrammed.
Check the vehicle manufacturer's handbook for key details and follow the instructions about code details. Because cars are so hi-tech these days, getting a spare key cut by your local locksmith probably will not work: the key might not have the transponders necessary to ‘talk' with your vehicle's security system. In fact, using a non-manufacturer's key could damage your car.

You should be able to get a replacement from your local dealer - the VIN will be on the log book for the vehicle and the MOT certificate too if you can't read it from the vehicle. (Hint, If you don't have any of the docs, go to a garage who do MOTs and give them your registration number they will be able to print off a copy for you)
Or you can have the locks replaced with different ones at most garages - decent ones will ask you to prove that the van belongs to you of course, but second hand locks can be a cheaper and faster option. It also removes the worry of someone out there possibly having keys to your vehicle.
If it's a really expensive replacement and you have comprehensive insurance you may be able to reclaim the costs from your insurer.
Good luck with getting it sorted, and make sure you keep a spare somewhere in future.

If you can get in to the vehicle, remove an easy to remove lock (the boot) a good locksmith can cut a key to the barrell. Short of that there are two other things to do is find the key or get to the vehicle maufacturer and order a new key and barrell set.

Car keys and presumably van keys too often come with a code, say on a bit of metal attached to the key fob with the keys when the vehicle is new.
Do you still have this? It should help you with getting a new set. Otherwise, it will be very expensive!!

The handbook wouldn't help, but a call to a dealership probably will. It may be necessary to have the vehicle towed. This is an expensive lesson on the importance of having spare keys.

I'm pretty sure the van has the same locks when it was purchased...write down the VIN number...which is located in the front driver side on the dashboard...you will be able to see through the windshield. with the VIN number...they can figure out everything about the vehicle. and they will know what type of key you need.

You have two options you either become good friends with someone who works with your local Manheim auto auction or contact your dealer. A real locksmith shoudl be able to make a key for the car on site.

A little trick- But may not work for you. If I had a vin number I can get a key cut. Depends on the vehicle. Any GM and Ford yes.

Call the dealership and I believe they can make you a key. You might need the VIN. Check the glove box for some numbered tags with the key codes.
