some anti-catholics frequently say to "disprove" the papacy is the argument "there's no pope in the bible"
My question is what does this have to do with anything?
Is the word "bible" in the bible? What about "trinity"?

CJ says "The word 'Bible' is used as calling it the 'Book', but what difference does that make?"
So are you saying that the CONCEPT is there, but not the exact word? interesting. Almost like how Jesus telling Peter to feed and watch his sheep would indicate something without using a specific word...
As for infallibility, i tried explaining that to you and you responded with "blah blah blah...Catholics are crazy"

Jax- Catholics don't worship graven images,
and I'm not sure where you're going with the "remember the sabbath and keep it holy", are you saying how they have church on Sunday instead of Saturday? because they keep sundays holy

"Platypus" doesn't appear in the bible either...Doesn't mean they're not around, or that they're minions of the devil...

Dear TD,
Vicarius Fili Dei(Vicar of the Son of God) is not the Papal title:it is Vicarius CHRISTI( Vicar or Steward or Deputy of Christ) so it does not fit into the 666 numerological superstitions of AntiChrist.
If you believe that the Father,Son and Holy Ghost are 3 separate beings and not 3 distinct hypostases or 'persons' in one Being, substance or essence ,then you do believe in the Historic Christian Trinity. If you do accept the Trinity ,you have the Catholic Church for showing how it is in the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic infallible/inerrant and authoritative Bible if and only if the Bible is read in its OHC&A infallible/inerrant and authoritative Oral Apostolic Tradition and is interpreted and applied by the OHC&A inerrant/infallible and authoritative Church
No Primacy of Peter in the Bible? Read the Book of ActsChapters 1-15
The Pope of Rome is the Successor of Peter
The Pope is not a replacement of Christ but His chief steward and is accountable for the welfare of the Church not only with the clergy and bishops but even more then they are.
Can you give a direct quote about PJPII saying that he can change the Scriptures? I don't think that youcan.
From a Catholic perspective the Protestant Ggoups have change and abridged the Christian Scriptures by throwing out books of the OT and embracing the Pharisee Jamnian Canon and by rejecting the earlier Judeo-Christian Alexandrian Septuaguint LXX Canon
Protestants have again abridged the Word of God by reducing it to only the their OT version and the catholic NT interpreted by their various and conflicting church interpetive traditions( for Catholics these are some of the :traditions of men" replacing the Tradition of God) replacing or/ and abridging the Full Word of God of Bible in Tradition in the Church.

The papacy has its origins in Matt 16:13-19. Peter is the rock on which His church is built. Note also that Christ gave Peter the "keys to the kingdom of Heaven" and that whatever he binds on Earth will be bound in Heaven and whatever he looses on Earth will be loosed in Heaven". This roots the infallibility given to the Popes. Don't confuse infallibility with impeccability. Yes, Peter sinned as have all Popes since him.

Yes Pete...(considered the first pope) is in the bible. And "bible" won't be in the bible because when the prophets wrote the books of the bible, they didn't see into the future and magically figure out that these writings, God's will, would be put into a book called the bible. Everybody out there, go read the bible, it has everything God wants you to know. Make wise choices and when you die you'll be granted eternal life in Heaven!

Actually (CJ) Jesus told Peter that he was the Rock and upon this rock I will build my Church. (Hence the tradition of Pope begins) Peter himself named Linus as his sucessor. Linus is the second Pope in the Catholic Church. So, this all doesn't come from an unknown source as you'd like to think.

"pope" is not a word in the bible. Neither is "Saturday or Sunday" for that matter. Oh and for CJ...neither is "trinity", & "Godhead" is in the KJV but not in the NIV or NLV.

the pope thinks he's the representative of the son of God.
that is the meaning of the wording on his crown, which says Vicarius Filii Dei.
no that's not biblical.
the previous pope, john paul vi said he has the power to change scripture as he see's fit.
not biblical.
and he did change the catechism ... for the 1st time in 400 years. he changed it to include the belief that the muslims have salvation just like christians. (muslims do NOT believe that Jesus Christ was the Messiah.)
but i suppose it's ok that he changed the catholic catechism as it's not biblical anyway.
you are right.
trinity is not in the bible b/c it is NOT biblical. it is man-made doctirne. the trinity claims that the father, son & Holy Spirit are 3 SEPARATE & CO-ETERNAL BEINGS.
not biblical.

thats why i don't agree with catholicism, they're beliefs contradict the bible.
you should go by what the bible says, not the man made beliefs.
* thou shalt not worship any graven images
* remember the sabbath day to keep it holy
catholics don't keep these laws either! catholicism is truth mixed with alot of error

And there actually is a pope in the Bible. The apostle Peter is regarded as being the first Pope. In fact, he is one of the only things associated with much of Christianity which is in there. As well as no Trinity, there's no Purgatory, no cardinals, and very little concerning big yachts and cocaine, which many televangelists see as essential components of Christianity.

Peter was the "Rock" upon who the Church was to be built.
Pete went to Rome.
Pete started the Roman Church.
Pete was the first Pope.
Every Catholic School boy/girl is taught this.
Is it true?

It could be that what they are getting at is that the church structure was never intended to be run or controlled by one person. There were 12 apostles and not 1. They did things in unison and consensus. Look at Acts 15.
There was no "head" apostle.
