Having matching shoes is not a requirement. The truth is that noone hardly ever get to see the shoes. If you are going to invest $100+ in a pair of shoes, may as well get something that you will use again.
Treat yoruself to a faboulous pair of shoes that you like, regardless of the color. In a wedding that I attended a couple of months ago , the bride was wearing a lavish pair of red Jimmy Choos under that white dress. Very chic.
Good luck

I have an ivory dress, too. I was able to find shoes that matched pretty well in several different shoe stores over the summer, when light-colored shoes were out. It's harder now that fall has come. I did eventually find the perfect ones at a local DSW (if you have them near you). They had a small bridal shoe section, and these were exactly what I was looking for (peep-toe pump, with beading to match my dress) for about $60. I also found a pair at Target.com in ivory (they just were a little tight for my wide feet!), and I found a pair of gold sandals that worked well with the dress, too. Try gold, bone or light beige if you can't find ivory. Don't wear white ones as they may make your dress look dingy.

RE:
What kind of shoe to get with ivory wedding dress?
I am going crazy trying to find a shoe that I like to match my wedding dress. My dress is a very simple, plain ivory halter dress. Its so hard to find ivory shoes!! Is there possibly another color that would work?

I had an Ivory dress and by chance found some ivory satin heels at Macy's. I think another color would be great though! Brown, pink, navy...those all look great with ivory. Think about the colors in your wedding and go from there. Who says you ave to match! How cute would it be to have some hot shoes on that look fabulous when you new hubby takes off the garter! What great pictures!

Look for a pair of dye-ables - heck, even Payless Shoes has some cute styles that are under $30! The stores should have swatches of the color choices in-store so you know in advance of purchasing them whether the shoes will be a good match for your dress. I'd stick to ivory though, color-wise.

You can buy shoes and have them dyed to match the dress. People do that all the time. However, they can't just be any shoes. They have to be special dye-able shoes, but you should be able to find them easily enough at the shoe stores in the mall even. In fact, go through the phone book first. Call shoe stores and ask if they dye shoes for weddings. That'll save you a lot of time and gas!

Shoes don't have to match the dress. I saw a picture of a bride wearing green shoes to coordinate with her wedding colors. I personally like color shoes with a wedding dress. Just look for shoes you love and will wear again. My dress is white and my shoes are gold.

One of my favorite shoes are from a company called Nina. They sell upscale designs at a much better price. I've found exact replicas of Christian Louboutins on that website! Here is one shoe from Nina that can be dyed to match ivory. Take a look and if you don't this one search the website for more styles because they offer other brands in addition to Nina that can be dyed.

You could always be creative and find a pair of shoes that match another color in the wedding. I wore a traditional white dress, but my bridesmaids were in red... so I wore classy red and white polka dot shoes. Everyone was absolutely surprised and I got SOOO many compliments. No one says your shoes have to match perfectly...
However, if you would like your shoes to match completely, you could always buy dyable shoes and take them to a professional to get them dyed. There are websites that you can order dyable shoes and mail them a swatch so they can completely match the color before the shoe is even mailed to you. Look around at different bridal shops or search online for "dyable bridal shoes".
Good luck!
