what does this statement mean to you?

"HE WHO HAS TWO SHIRTS WHILE ANOTHER HAS NONE IS NOT A CHRISTIAN."

if you really believed the righteousness you spout, why do you have a computer and an internet connection? you could sell those and feed the less fortunate. why do you have any material positions at all? your reward comes in the next life right?

if you guys really believed you could go to heaven for living like a Christian, why aren't you all in Africa or 3rd world nations mother Teresa style?

One gains Heaven by faith, not by works.

Great faith, however, does inspire good works, and faith without works is dead, according to scripture.

Many early Christians did indeed sell all their belongings and properties in order to donate to the poor. There are current day Christians who give sacrificially as well.

We are not commanded to do so. If we live by the examples of the Bible, we see that the faithful were asked to give 10% of their increase each year. (10% of the profits.... not of the principle.....)

We also know that we who are more richly blessed will have more expected of us. Our giving typically exceeds the 10% outlined. We also give our time and our talents for further the work of the church.

While the poor widow who gave her last coins to the Church was indeed highly commended, we were instructed to give of what we have, not of what we do not have. We do not have to be destitute to be Christians, but we should be generous.

Throughout the Bible, and our own history, faithful people have been prosperous. That in itself is not a sin. God himself says that He will pour out blessings on his faithful children.

It is up to us to handle the blessings correctly. We are to use those blessings to perform good works in the name of the Lord.

As to the quote, what is the source?

I presume you are quoting from Matthew 5:40 “If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also. OR Luke 6:29 “ Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.
Look mate, the taxman has already had my shirt and is now trying to get my coat.
And I wouldn't get zilch for my computer and the money from the broadband would be long gone before it got to the starving.
And who said Mother Teresa was a Christian?

I don't know who that quotation is from. And that is not the definition of a Christian.

Why should I go to Africa or a third world nation when I have the hungry and hurting here in my own backyard? I donate time and money to the homeless, the mentally ill, and crime victims. Why shouldn't I enjoy the fruits of my labor?

Because most that claim the name of Christ don't really know him.

God has not called every one to the mission field. Yes, I STRONGLY believe in supporting missions, and usually give money to missions, but God has also called some to be prayer warriors and other things. We can't all be in Africa or Haiti or wherever, only those that God has called. After all spiritually our country needs more than most of these 3rd world countries.

I can have a computer and internet and still feed the hungry and give shirts to the shirtless. It is not wrong to have material posessions, it is wrong to be so attatched to your material possessions that you can't let them go.
Oh, btw, I do live simply so that others may simply live.

I'd rather support missions so those lost souls will maybe hear the word of God and be in heaven having eternal life and not suffering anymore

It means that if it's in your hands to help someone who really needs it and you do not help them, then you wont go unpunished, just like it says in the Bible.
