i have been friends with this girl for about 6 months and i just asked her on a date, she also told me she really liked me. i just wanted to know if she is technically my gf or not. don't tell me to ask her what she thinks because this is kinda embarrassing.

Heck no! A date doesn't make a girlfriend. You need some Archie comic books my friend. You can date tons of people and not have a steady girlfriend. If you start dating this same person more often and exclusively, then you might start to consider it a girlfriend situation. If it's "embarrassing" to discuss with her, you don't know her well enough to be even thinking of her as a girlfriend. When you do feel it's right to discuss it, by that time you'll probably be in a real relationship and the answer will be obvious.

No matter how long you are friends or if you both like each other if you haven't taken the plunge and talked about being b/f & g/f .......then you aren't (not yet anyway).
Just b/c you like someone doesn't make them your g/f or b/f.
My suggestion is go on at least a couple more dates before you talk about that. If you really want her as a g/f you won't be embarrassed to talk to her.....shy maybe but you shouldn't be embarrassed.

LOL! I don't think she is your girlfriend yet but you never know....

everyone comes across this label at one time or another. See first if you go on more dates; and then, maybe around the 3 or 4th time you can bring up the question of where you two stand in terms of relationships. Friends? Boyfriend& Girlfriend? Mutually Exclusive?

Wait till the date, see how it goes, and then ask her if she will be your girl friend. Giving her the offer is not as embarassing as asking what she thinks or asking her to accept you as a bf. But definitely bring up the conversation, because a "date" means different things to different people and the only way to find out is to ask/tell her.

No she is not your gf yet. Not until is it plain as day that she isn't going to date anyone else. A date is only a date, nothing more. A date in definition is how you get to know someone, not how to start a relationship with them. Have fun!!

shes not your girlfriend until you guys make it official. right now, you guys are moving at an admirable pace, taking things slow, so it means more to the both of you to keep the communication lines open and reciprocate the feelings you may have for her to her. you have to admit you like the girl first to yourself AND to her before you can consider her your girlfriend.

good move to ask her out if you want to get out of that "just my friend" mode. its up to you right now to make the next move. shes already put her heart out there by telling you that she likes you.

Hmm, I would say no. I've "dated" lots of guys and was never boyfriend/girlfriend with them until we both decided we didn't want to date other people. Hehe, go out with as many girls as you can while your still single!!
