would it be better to buy it new or at a pawn shop?

They are inexpensive enough that I would buy new and then you have a warranty. Prices are generally a bit higher at a camera store, but they usually know their cameras and can "hold your hand" if you need it. There are 7 mega-pixel cameras out there new for considerably less than $200. Best advice- check out the zoom range and features and pick the one that fits best in your hands and is easy to use. Sometimes you can get better deals online and usually save the sales tax, but then you have the shipping to deal with and if it is a lemon, as they can be sometimes, you will have to mail it back at your expense.

Wrong question. What do you really want in a camera? Your local library should have Nov'07 issue of Consumer Reports. It shows features you may want or could be important to you. Do you want a camera with just a 1 second delay, maybe one that has an image stabilizer, maybe one with a lot of zoom, maybe one that has good battery life, and bottom line maybe one with excellent picture quality. Read up on this stuff before you buy.
And don't forget stores on line like
Beach Camera
Adorama
B&H Photo usually have very good prices+ shipping. Don't confine your self to just Nashville.
PS--forget pawn shop!

Buy new. Is there some reason you can't use the Yellow Pages and a telephone to call local stores in Nashville?
