Does anyone have a helpful hint about getting scratches off of my digital camera glass? They don't seem like very deep grooves but just enough to annoy me with this very expensive camera.

I would contact the maker and get it repaired. I've worked in optics since the '80's. You don't repair scratches, you replace the element.

A scratch does two things, 1. it alters irrevocably the optical characteristics of the element. 2. The coatings are destroyed and feathered at that point,

You can polish it down, but the glass will never be aspherically stable after that with both luminance and chromatic aberrations.

Take the lens in and get it professionally repaired.

If they are on the lens they will probably affect image quality. Repairing it will probably cost more than a new camera.

If you buy a new camera, buy the filter adapter if one is offered and buy a Skylight or Haze filter and keep it on at all times. Filters are much cheaper than lenses or cameras to replace.

Dirt and smudges, you can use a lens cloth and lens cleaner, but for scratches, there isn't a cure. They may not actually show up in your images, and so won't really be a concern.
