I have a lot of really close guy friends, but they are just that, friends. I would never get with them and none of them have ever crossed the line with me. Sometimes I like talking about my stuff with guys better, to get a different opinion and a guys point of view on things. So, yes, I do think you can be just friends with someone from the opposite sex.

Your question is not easy to be answered.Males and females are the opposite and the problem sooner or later will show-up in the surface.Some cases are the exception in the rules, and the boys are the girls friends,but in general is very weir to see this in practice.

Yes, it is possible but if the guy is ever attracted to the girl, he may secretly want something more.
It does vary on the guy and it is relatively rare as I'm sure most guys if they see their best female friends show up at their door naked saying "Take me big boy" will turn them down. :p

two people at my school boy/girl have known each other for 14 years, they tried dating once and didnt like the idea of it

My best friend is my ex-girlfriend. We realized we didn't work as a couple so we became best friends. Sometimes it's better to be close friends than an item.
