Is this "something" breaking thru the skin? If so that is a compound fracture, go to the emergency room. If it is not thru the skin and is a lump, this could be muscle or broken bursa sac or ??? Put something ice cold on it to help with the swelling, and I would go to the Doctor/Emergency room and get it checked.

I panicked when I had pain in my hand and fingers it was excruciating. Doctor advised that it was carpal tunnel syndrome where the nerves to your hand are restricted ---really bad at night so need to wear arm guard helps--- also medication relieved it fast. Knowing what it was also helped as I felt my hand was dropping off ! so off to the doctor fast ! meanwhile a bandage on the wrist may help also keep hand in a sling ---you will probably need xray --takes time so get cracking as repairs can be done once the problem is known !

Have you injured it at all? When is the pain worse and do you have any numbness? Is there anything that makes it better or worse? Is it worse when you use it, or when you're sleeping? If you can answer these for me, I might be able to offer more insight.
