Are they really afraid that evolution will somehow devalue thier place on Earth?
Are they really afriad that they won't go to heaven?
Just what is the threat that causes them to overlook a huge body of evidence supporting evolution. Evoution just has to be one of the most beautiful laws (not theory as the general public uses the word) in science.
I'm not asking this in the "Science" category because I'm familiar with those agruments

Evolutionists are not afraid of Creationism. It's just that Creationism is not scientific, and thus does not belong in a science class. It is fine in a philosophy class. By the way, if it were in a school class, I'd hope that the class would aslo address other cultures' creation myths. There's about as much evidence for those as there is for the Genesis version.

There's a few reasons. The main one has to be that a creationist is in effect, a fundamentalist. They view the bible as a literal and historically accurate view of the world. They claim it is perfectly correct in every detail (they just ignore the contradictions) to them it is INERRANT. Now evolution totally disproves the whole childish story of creation revealed in the book of genesis. A fundamentalist can't accept that these bronze-age desert dwelling people were talking in misleading metaphors, there's only 2 possibilities left - they were wrong, or creation is wrong. They will not allow themselves to consider one of these possibilties.
If creation is wrong, maybe everything in the bible is wrong? A fundamentalist doesn't seem willing or able to pick and choose what's useful and what's not.
You also hear them arguing against it from grounds of personal dislike - they dont WANT to be related to apes, and so - they aren't.

First of all, let's get the terminology right. Evolution is, indeed, a "theory." But, in science, theory means more than just "idea" as some people mistake. For that matter, gravity is also a "theory". That said: Most creationists are not afraid of evolution--they just don't believe it. In some cases, it's because they think the theory ignores an obvious (in their minds) need for there to be a first cause or creator. In other cases, particularly the fundamentalists, they argue that the theory must be flawed because it conflicts with the "infallible" story of creation in Genesis. There's a great book out there called "Evolution, Creationism and other Modern Myths (Vine Deloria)" that takes both schools of though to task for ignoring obvious flaws in both lines of argument. I found it an interesting and stimulating, you might check it out if this debate interests you.

Because they are too close-minded to want to understand evolution. They prefer god did it as the answer. After all understanding evolution is not only difficult for them to understand but it also goes against their religion.
And by the way I personally think that a majority of religious people are truly creationists
I believe in evolution because it makes the most plausible sense than saying god did it

They are afraid that if one part of the Bible turns out to be a mistake, or a fiction, or untrue, then that invalidates the rest of it.
It's an extreme form of insecurity really. It's the same reason that they maintain sexual orientation is a choice, in the face of all evidence and common sense that it isn't. They think 'If it's not a choice then God is unfair to gay people. And God's perfect, isn't he? Then it MUST be a choice!'

This is an excellent question
I think that religion is a sort of "tricknology" that once it is accepted by someone will kinda guide and " automaton" them
somehow this religion will become a program that autodeffend itself into the sprit of those real "simple minded" u konw what i mean

They need an excuse for sleeping in their science classes throughout school. Now they're afraid that someone is rightly going to take them to task for their ignorance.

It is the "creed" of Creationism to accept that God is smart enough to have made the world in seven days, but to temper that with a belief He is too dumb to have thought of evolution as a mechanism to do it!

Joshua B, you're spreading lies. ID is not a scientific theory and would not qualify as one. A theory has to be supported by verifiable facts. Do you see the difference?
They're afraid because it threatens their faith.

Why are you both afraid of each other? YOU KNOW>>> there is a possibility that God CREATED everything and set in motion EVOLUTION as a sort of autopilot error correction so that S/HE would not need to intervene all the time. Unless absolutely necessary then there could be a divine intervention. How about that ? Are you both afraid of this idea? Why?
