My pup is 8wks old, and i take her in the grass to potty but there isn't alot of other dogs around but she scratches right behind her ears but just her right one and i thought maybe fleas, but i thought humans could get them from their pets and i've haven't been itchy. She has been scratching for three days now off and on, i guess when she is still long enough to notice. Why is she scratching and why am i not itchy if its fleas?

1.Could be an food allergy or some other allergy
2.I don't know anything about fleas, but you can try a flea shampoo and see if she stops scratching
3. there could be another irritation, check her ears, don't be afraid of fleas.

Maybe shes just itchy, my dog scratches everywhere I haven't found fleas or anything else.

My 10 Year-old-golden has been scratching for the past two years. There are a number for reasons why your dog could be scratching!
1. Fleas-your dog could have them even though you don't. Give your dog a bath with flea shampoo.
2. Food allergies, did you switch to a new dog food? If you did check out what ingredients are different from you old dog food.
3. Allergies to things in your house or outside. If you live in a place where the weather is changing, you god could have allergies, like people do. My dogs allergies are worst in the spring and fall.
4. Ear infection or cut. Check out the dogs ears.

I hope that I can help. If it doesn't stop or you are concerned take your dog to the vet.

Dogs itch for a lot of reasons - and yes, there is a reason.
Possible problems:
1) fleas
2) ear mites
3) ear infection
4) skin irritation
If she is scratching just behind her ears that she has some sort of ear issue and she is trying to tell you. My guess is ear mites. You'll need to take her to the vet for ear drops and usually clears up the problem. You might also find the drops at a pet store, but I would find out the problems 1st.

Humans don't always get bitten - dog fleas like to bite dogs, they won't necessarily bother with you. Your puppy probably does get fleas - they don't even have to go outside to get them, fleas can come in the house to get them.

If you comb your dog with a flea comb, you'll see black flakes on the fur on the comb. These are flea dirts. You might even see the live fleas. Go to a vet to pick up some proper treatment, and don't use store bought stuff.
