I want a glaze that will firm up, but not be hard as a rock. I'm not sure what to add to the melted chocolate bars.

You will want to mix equal parts chocolate and heavy (whipping) cream. Half and half can be used in a pinch. You can even get by with milk in case of emergency. Freshly brewed coffee is another interesting alternative. Follow this method:
1) Break the chocolate into small pieces (you don't need to melt it)
2) Put the cream in a microwave safe dish (glass measuring cup works well). Heat in microwave until it boils. (If using coffee, skip this step)
3) Put the chocolate into the cream and cover the dish. Let sit for few minutes
4) Mix thoroughly with a whisk or fork.
5) If it ends up a little to thick, reheat it and add more cream

Use the best chocolate you can. Cheap candy bars have all kinds of funny stuff in them that will make it hard to make a good glaze. Most grocery stores have some pretty good quality chocolate hiding somewhere. It's worth paying a little extra for it when you want to do something like this.

add a bit of unflavored oil to it. If you have a flavored oil, that's cool, too, like a mint oil or a banana oil. . . it will keep it from getting too hard, but it will still glaze over, kind of like those ice cream toppings. Keep in mind, just a little is all you need, test it by drizzling a little bit onto what ever it is you are glazing and wait for it to harden, and check to see if it is the way you want it. If too hard, add more oil, if too soft, add more chocolate, just keep doing it until you get it to the consistency you are looking for. . . enjoy. . .^_^

I would add a bit of butter and keep stirring. When it seems about right, put a little on a plate and put it in the fridge to see what it does when cold. If it's too hard, then add a small amount of milk and stir it in very well. IMHO, I think the idea of adding oil would make it taste greasy and gross.
