Nobody can know for sure, but there are some clues.

He was a Jew.

He lived in the Middle East.

He was born in Nazareth, which is now part of the Palestinian territories.

"But I saw a painting, and He was blonde, with blue eyes!"

Think about it. I'd be willing to bet that He was dark skinned like a modern Jew or Arab, but not black like an African, nor white like a European.

hehehe - ok, sorry, maybe I'm not going to answer your question exactly but.... do you ever watch Family Guy? There was an episode where a bunch of multi-cultural kids were playing in the living room and they got into this big argument about what color skin Santa is...

Nobody knows for sure what skint one Jesus was, but I think it's safe to assume he was of the tanner/darker variety considering the areas where he lived, but then again who REALLY knows?

While it's true that it shouldn't matter in the sense that his message and legacy and so on had nothing to do with anyone's skin color. However, European depictions of him have made this an issue because they have given him a set of features he most likely could not have had. If, as people are saying, it doesn't matter, why was so much effort spent to convince the world he was white, blue-eyed, and racially as European as they come? I agree that his skin color SHOULDN'T matter -- neither should any of ours. Unfortunately...

Judging where he was supposedly born he'd have been Middle Eastern colouring. He was after all a Jew born in what is now Isreal.

This type of argument and not speaking because of it, belongs in a playground not a Pub!

well he would have been out in the sun most of the day, so he would have had a fair sun tan,, suppose you could accept he was not white. not black,, definatly not yellow or red so he may well have been dark olive skin tone, But what does it matter. Jesus life was about understanding eachother regardless of any of our differences. Bless Him
And look at us the human race,, a bloody disgrace,, one simple message,,, too simple for mankind too understand,, Love Thy Nieghbour, and in this global community. we OUR all neighbours

Jesus was born of Joseph and Mary - who both came from the Mediterranean area.

Therefore Jesus would have been olive skinned

His skin color was that of an olive typed skin tone. You have to look at the region of which he was from. Tell your friends to chill out. Not a big deal when you just look it up.

Since he came from the Middle East it is reasonable to assume he was more dark complected. But without any contemporary records, it is only speculation. Of course, artist renderings of Jesus have him fair, light, dark and black depending on where the work was done.
