Evidently, the information that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John included were in their gospels were sufficient. Otherwise, God would have inspired another gospel account. However, God did inspire him to write 1 and 2 Peter. Both books point to that fact, because in each book the writer identifies himself as "Peter".
"Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the temporary residents scattered about in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, to the ones chosen" -1 Peter 1:1
"Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith, held in equal privilege with ours, by the righteousness of our God and [the] Savior Jesus Christ" -2 Peter 1:1
There are several apostles that did not write a gospel account.

History has it that Mark was a scribe of Peter and wrote the first Gospel in about 56-60 CE. That is why in the Gospel of Mark there is mention of Peter's mistakes more than in any other, yes mistakes, because above all he was human. That is traditionally what is said about the Gosple, Peter being a fisherman probably was not very literate, and would have needed someone else to write it down for him. Now there are two letters attributed to St. Peter in the canon. But during the time of Peter none of the Apostles were writing anything down, they were to busy spreading the Word.
God bless and continue to seek truth.

It was said that Mark is actually the gospel according to Peter - Mark taking dictation from Peter. Who knows if there is any truth to that, but that is what the ancients said.
There's no gospel according to Peter (or at least with his name as title), but there's also no gospel according to Jesus. Isn't that even weirder.
(BTW 1&2 Peter are almost certainly not written by the apostle Peter. The writing reflects a later development and later controversies in the Jewish/Christian churches than would have existed when Peter was alive.)

I disagree with some other comments written here.
In my studies of Greek & Hebrew, First & Second Peter are from the apostle Peter himself. Silvanus was a scribe that both Paul and Luke knew along with Peter, and most likely, Silvanus wrote what Peter dictated.
Hope this helps you.
Keep smiling.

The bible is about a lot of people who never wrote anything. Peter wasn't more special, than any of the apostles, in spite of what the Catholic Church teaches...When Jesus said "upon this rock I will build my church" he was not talking about Peter himself, but about the words, Peter had just spoken, when Jesus ask him, who do you say I am? Peter answered, "You are the Christ" that is the rock,,that Jesus built his church upon....that fact....that foundation...
You could ask why a lot of poeple didn't write about him? If God inspired them to do it, they did it...if he didn't, then they didn't....the bible was written under the inspiration of God. God picked the ones he wanted to write about it, would be my thought.

1. Many people wrote the story of Peter in the Bible not needing him to write his own story.
2. There were many gospels written and God only chose certain ones out of hundreds because they are written for reason only God knows. They are the chosen gospels that tells the stories and shares the knowledge that Christ thinks that need to be told.

All the the New Testament are transliterated oral traditions written decades after they were supposedly first told. The attributions are more than likely arbitrary and there is obvious collusion on the part of the "author(s)"
