It would appear that what you heard isn't true

They now use photographs to document the location of the body. There is no need for chalk. Not sure about the contamination issue.

That is done for dramatic effect only.
In real life, photographs with scale measuements are taken.
In the days before photography was not as precise as it is now, they may have very well outlined the body.
With today's technology, you need to be very careful at crime scenes. It is very easy to remove evidence, or to bring in contaminants to the scene.

Yes.
That is old school. Modern crime scene investigation techniques make it unnecessary.
From the low tech (high detail scene sketching and measuring -which is still required) to super duper high tech (360 degree hi res digital and multiple filter capability cameras that download a program when you are done that gives you measurements, distances, ambient light measurements, temperature, infra red scans, and GPS locations.)

"Outlining" is VERY old-school, and is not done anymore. Photograps of the crime-scene handle showing the relationships of all objects in-situ. ANY foreign substance introduction is strongly avoided.

Yes. that was just done for effect in movies, but now even when you watch crime shows on tv, they don't do it on there.

The only thing I "mark" would be car tires on a fatal accident, but never a body.

No...we still use chalk to outline the body....it's a little difficult getting the chalk to stick where there is a blood flow...but if you work hard enough at it it will adhere to the floor....street....or whatever.
