I am interested in being a dental hygienist but I heard that the highest and only degree you can earn is an associate in applied science degree.

that isn't true at all. a dental ASSISTANT offers an associate degree. my sister is in 4 year dental HYGIENE school and will graduate with a bachelor's degree and she is thinking about going back for her masters after working for a few years in san antonio, tx.

That's not true. There are many dental hygiene programs in the country. Most offer A.S. degrees, but there are many that offer a Bachelor's of Science.

It's the same way with being an Registered Nurse.

Whether you get your A.S. or B.S., we all have to take the same licensing exams.

It's the same amount of schooling. It takes 4 years at Jr. Colleges, you just end up getting two associates degrees instead of a Bachelors.

Most will go for a Bachelor's program if they know that they will be futhering their education in the future. For example, to teach dental hygiene one day.

Hope this answers your question!
