I am currently an LPN who makes really good money at my gov't job. I am currently in school to obtain my RN license. Since I have been in school I have really thought about following my dreams and getting my degree to teach. I am a 26 yr old mother of 2 and wife of a navy sailor and I know I can obtain my RN license quicker and began making money faster. But I keep questioning if I want to do that or go in to the field of my dreams.....

Do you have a college degree in nursing? There are programs in TX (and probably in your area) where you can get an accelerated teaching certificate in just a year if you already have a college degree in any field. Maybe you could look into doing that? Perhaps before you jump into a career change you should test it out to see if it's what you really want. Call your local school district and ask if you can observe classes for a few days or volunteer at a local school. If after a trial run, you are still being called to teach and it's fiancially possible for you to change school programs and take a pay-cut, then I say go for it. It is very hard to work in a field you don't enjoy or even hate (believe me, I know!) especially if you are being called to do something else. What you give up in your paycheck you will more than make up for in "emotional paychecks" and personal fulfillment. Good luck with your decision!

My sister is in a job that pays her really well, but she is stressed and tired all the time. And from just watching her, i definitely, without hesitations, would say do what makes you happy. Your happiness will compensate for the money. Its way better than having money and being stressed. Stress affects so much of a person physically.....don't do that to yourself. especially if you think you would hate being an RN.

it depends on if that is financially feasable for you. i could not afford to take a paycut and still live the way my husband and i do. we have no debt other than a mortgage and one car note. no credit cards or anything. however if money were less of an issue and i was not satisfied with my current job and had an opportunity to do something i desire, i would do it. but as it happens i love my job and couldn't imagine doing anything else.

It depends on your finacial situation. If you are in a position where a pay cut wont hurt, then go for it. Other wise you would be better off going with what keeps the bills paid.
