I am currently taking Quranic Lessons. But the problem is, in America, you won't and can't get the same kind of Islam and Quranic Education you would as if you were in a Muslim Country. Like, for example, if you hear a hafiz who studied in Saudia Arabia, and a Hafiz who studied here, you will see that the Hafiz who studied in saudia Arabia will have better prounciation.

So my question is, when i grow up, can i perfect my Quran?Like can i take lessons in Saudia Arabia ( they must speak English -- the tutors) or any muslim country to perfect my prounciation and other things (such as when to make the letters sound long and when to keep it short)

And maybe after i perfect my Quran, can i become hafiz by taking some kind of a course in Saudia Arabia? ( i know they have hafiz camp there)

I really want to speak Arabic fluently and read the Quran accurately... so please help !!

Assalamu Alaykum dear sister,

This is the best site I know about Quran. It has three certified English translations, Urdu , Malaysian , Indonesian and Turkish translations also. along with Arabic text and beautiful voice recitations for five famous reciters. so you can try to recite the verses as you hear it.

http://www.quranexplorer.com/
http://www.quranexplorer.com/quran

Select the Sura , the verse number and the reciter name and click play, no programs to download.

The prophet peace be upon him said that one who reads the Quran and finds difficulty in reading it, is given two rewards ( i.e the reward for reading it and a reward for the difficulty he finds)

Although most Islamic resources (books and hadeeth translations) are now available in English , It's always advised for a Muslim to learn Arabic , to be able to understand the Quran better and in the same words it was revealed and to learn the Hadeeth in the exact words that the prophet said.

Learning Arabic is not hard. But I don't think you can do it on your own. Three years ago, I met students from al-Imam university in Saudi Arabia on Hajj. This university takes students from different countries in the world,it teaches Arabic language and Islamic sciences like Aqidah, Fiqh , Hadeeth.. etc.

There were students from the UK , France and mostly African countries. some of them had spent only one year in Saudi Arabia and they spoke Arabic better than Arabs . Actually Arabic was the common language between us. not the daily life Arabic but Arabic of the Quran.

This is the university webpage, but I don't think the English page is available yet.

I think you can ask about centers that teach Arabic language where you live.

Edit : check these sites for learning Arabic online.They are very simple:

http://www.islamopas.com/arabic/eindex.html (this one also talks about rules of Tajweed i.e reciting Quran correctly also you can listen to the right pronounciation of letters)

http://www.searchtruth.com/arabic/lessons/unit1_writing.php
listen to the alphabet , learn how to read and write , grammar..

http://arabic.speak7.com/ This one is good but it assumes that you have Arabic fonts already on your computer

Actually you can get an online webcast Arabic class from Egypt right now. I have a friend who uses it for her daughter. It is kind of expensive though. I think she pays $300 a month for a private webcast with a teacher from Egypt. If you look online, I'm sure you could find something you could start right now. But, if you have a good hafiz teaching you, you should be able to get good pronunciation, even living here.

It is better to try it now, because the older you get, the harder it is to get perfect pronunciation in another language. So see if you can find classes where you live taught be an Arab or check online. Also, there is so much available online in terms of Islamic education. Since your language is English, that is probably a better option for you in terms of increasing your understanding than going to another country where it will be harder to learn Islam in English.

Yes but there is no need to do so. You can become fluent right here in America with practice. Do not confuse accent with pronnunciation, or Arabism with Islam. There are rules to the recitation of Al-Qu'ran Majid and if you learn them and put the to use there would be no cause for you to go to Arabia other than to make Hajj Ummra or simply a pleasant visit. We have some EXCELLENT scholars right here. May ALLAH bless you and your efforts. EID MUBARAK

It's because it is the word of God! No one on the face of this earth can write ANYTHING similar. There was a challenge sent down to people to produce a verse like it an no one to this day has been able to defeat that challenge. The people commenting on this thread are obviously ignorant to what Islam is and to the beautiful message sent to mankind in the form of the Qur'an. Their thoughts seem to be corrupted by what they hear through the media about Islam and I'm sure that half of them have never even hear a recitation of the Qur'an. I am glad you find beauty in the language of the Qur'an. May Allah guide you towards the right path. Ameen

After you learn reading Quran with wrong pronunciation and many years later when you will try to learn from the person who knows how to pronounce words correctly, you will much harder time to forget the pronunciation already built on your tongue. It is much harder to erase the first learned way and learn a new way to prounce later. It is lot easier to learn how to read Quran with correction pronunciation now. If you can find any one in your town or the Islamic centers in your area, then off course you have no choice. If your are still in school and have summer off, it will be better to go to a Muslims country like in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan and learn how to read Quran in a religious school in summer. One summer will be enough to start you with good pronunciation. Once you learn how to say words correctly, you will not have difficulty even if you learn from some one in your town of residence. If you can't find a Arabic speaking teacher in your city, you can find one in Islamic schools of larger cities in USA to learn how to read Quran in summer holidays.
Let me know if you need more help. My e-mail is with yahoo.

Of course you can do that, however it wants hard working. I as a Kurd (Kurds are Muslim) like you I can not speak Arabic fluently but I can pronounce Holy Koran well and that is because I do practice and imitate to the famous Koran readers like Muhammad Sahid Manshawi, Sahd Ghamdi and others. And I do this with the help of CD's containing softwares that show and reads Holy Koran with different Koran readers.

I am afraid that you are speaking of ACCENT. A person reared in the Sudan can speak perfect Modern Standard Arabic, but sound differently from another person raised in Lebanon.

Similarly, a person raised in Britain speaking perfect English will sound quite different from someone raised in Georgia speaking perfect English.

Peace be upon you, sister;

There are many points I like to clarify to you;
1) Being a non-Arabic speaker may make it difficult for you, but not impossible, to speak Arabic fluently, day may come to you that you speak Arabic more fluently than Arabs themselves.

2) Loving to learn Arabic language and Quran is a huge motive for you to learn it quickly insha'allah (God willing).

3) And till you learn Arabic and become fluent in it, every time you recite Quran and this is hard for you and find difficulty in it, you will have double reward, these are not my words, our beloved prophet Muhamed, peace be upon him, told this himself.

May Allah accept you and make it easy for you to learn Arabic and Quran, Amen.

btw, happy Eid for you and those whom you love.

Is improved pronunciation going to lead to improved understanding, or is the emphasis on perfect pronunciation a means of inhibiting understanding?

Most people who have read and understood the Quran have gone on to renounce Islam.
