Make it the day you need it (if you can), add lemon or lime juice, and place plastic wrap directly on the surface of the food when you store it in the fridge.
The pit actually doesn't help with the browning at all.

Use lemon juice in it. When I store it in the refrig overnight I take a piece plastic wrap and push it down on the surface of the dip so that all the air is kept away from it. The put the lid of the container on it. I leave the edges of the plastic wrap on the outside of the container. There will minimal oxidation of the fruit and it should still be that gorgeous green.

Add some sort of acid to it like Lime or Lemon juice. The acidity controls the oxygen which is what causes the avocado to turn brown.

Add acid (lemon, lime juice or whatever) as soon as you put in the avacado and then make sure you have an air tight cover on it when not in use.

forget the pit---squeeze a half lemon or lime into it and stir well--it won't effect the taste--be sure to cover
