Prevention is better than cure ...

Get a cross-cut shredder, put ALL paper with your name / address through the shredder (not just your Bank statements), NEVER give ANY personal details to 'surveys' etc (mothers maiden name, first school etc), ALWAYS lie when 'registering' for anything on-line (they can't guess your Mothers Maiden name if you type in "Dell2100" - or your first school if you enter "SundayExpress")

Spend the money on a decent hardware firewall and a 2nd layer software firewall (eg. Zone Alarm) and anti-virus software instead.

Also use as much open source stuff as you can (Firefox, Thunderbird etc) and NEVER, EVER click on a 'link' received by email ..

Finally get a 'throw away' pre-paid credit card for on-line use . and never put more than you need to on it...

what are you asking? if you can purchase identity fraud insurance? yes you can. its realativley inexpensive, most people tack it onto their home insurance. it helps with cost of legal issues and such if someone else uses your identity
