Swimming is a GREAT exercise for both aerobics and muscle toning. Plus, it is easy on the joints. Go for it!!

It depends what else you're doing.

Ideally, you should be constantly active, at a level that won't tire you out. Gentle (effortless) movement is powered by fat only, so it won't fatigue you, or make you hungry. Most exercises use at least some sugar, but the more gently you work, the longer you'll be able to continue. Working out very hard is a false economy, because you'll need more 'recovery' time.

If you swim, you should vary the stroke you use, so that you're using as many different muscles as possible. Check the length of the pool as well, because some are shorter than the standard 'length' (25 yards, or sometimes metres). It's a good idea to swim for a particular time, so that you can add extra lengths as your stroke becomes more effective with practice.

If you get a bike, and use it to get everywhere (stop complaining about the weather), that will help even more. Especially if you live a reasonable distance away from the pool...

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

If you walk or cycle to the pool, then 30 lengths 3 times weekly may be enough. But if not, then better try to build up to swimming a little further.

Swimming is a great 'weightless' exercise so go for it,but build up your amount of lengths you do gradually or else you will tire too quickly & lose enthusiasm.
Don't try to speed up your weight loss too much, losing 2lb a week is good as it's more likely to stay off,if you lose shed loads all at once it will pile back on just as quick!

pick up a 5 or 10 pound weight at the gym and visualize that weight coming off holding the weight in your hands helps bring home just how heavy even 5 pounds of extra fat can be
