as a child who was dragged door to door, i was mortified. it was the most uncomfortable thing i had to endure right next to attending 3 boring meetings a week
I still can't condemn the Witnesses, though, it would be easier for me to. They believe they are doing God's will
interesting someone would give me a thumbs down for such a honest hearted answer. wonder what kind of blind idiot would do such a thing?

There are many people who have never asked one of Jehovah's Witnesses questions, and have listened to the answers. It is sometimes easier for a person just to ask someone else about how they feel or what they think about Jehovah's Witnesses. When they do this, allot of times they will get a negative response, because the person they asked has done the same thing, so really doesn't know all of the facts. Also there are those who don't want to know, they are spoken of in 2 Peter 3: 3. This same thing happened often to Jesus and his disciples. The issue of blood usually is one of the first things that are mentioned. holidays are the other, and the fact that the Bible does not teach the trinity is another. These can all be answered from any translation or version of the Bible that you are comfortable with. The King James is fine, I began with this one in 1972 when I first began studying with Jehovah's Witnesses. I also compared different Bibles, the Catholic Bible and the Gideon Bible as well. I decided that I was ready for baptism about a year later, but I did allot of research. In Acts 17: 11, we are encouraged to examine the Scriptures, and ask questions to find the truth. 1 Thess. 5: 21, make sure of all things. I can tell you this; I would not be one of Jehovah's Witnesses if I didn't understand completely what the Bible teaches, that this is the truth and that my life has improved 100% from the way that it was before.

It's a matter of having the right attitude. I try to put myself in their shoes (which is quite easy, I was in their shoes once upon a time!). Where I come from, you NEVER slam the door in anyone's face (unless he's a burglar, of course), but I showed my displeasure at their visit in other ways.
So I don't get offended when the door gets shut in my face (the first time it happened I was amused , like "People here actually do that?") I understand they just don't know, they are not rejecting my message but Jehovah's, and that I have done my part.
Jehovah sees that and it pleases him. That's enough for me!

No, because I know that I am doing what is right in Jehovah's eyes. In a sense, I guess I could say that I am immune to doors being slammed. But I totally agree with Lillie.

We are taught to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
We are all volunteers and no one is paid to go door to door, it's all out of love.
We are following Jesus commandment to go and preach. We are sincerely really there to help some one that maybe just lost a loved one in death and we can share a comforting scripture.
We meet alot of people who are depressed and have lost all hope. We are there to encourage them with a beautiful scripture.
I'm 36 years old and my Wife and I got baptized in Aug. 1996.
I'm 6 foot 5 and even I get my feelings hurt sometimes. We are human beings and we want to treat others how we would like to be treated.
As you said you would never slam the door in any ones face and I would never treat someone like that. I would be kind and respectful and just say no thank you if I was not interested.
My Wife and I and baby boy (5 months) take time out of our day to help others. And this makes us feel good.
Thank you for caring.
Have a nice day.

Ironically, a typical Jehovah's Witnesses is actually encouraged by outright persecution.
...(Acts 5:40-42) [They] flogged them, and ordered them to stop speaking upon the basis of Jesus’ name, and let them go. These, therefore, went their way from before the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy to be dishonored in behalf of his name. And every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.
Incidentally, a common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!
That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.
(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.
Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:
(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

I totally agree with Vot Ana, it depends on your attitude. It use to hurt me but i learned alot from my mother. She and her family didn't learn the truth until she was almost 13. Up until that time they never listened. Whenever someone slams the door she tells me she can relate to them and hopes that one day they will change. Or like when someone is overly rude we explain to them why we preach every Saturday and everyday all over the world. In the end we're doing something that is commanded of us. It means our lives and the lives of those who listen to us.

Honestly, most people DON'T slam the doors in our faces, least not in these parts.
When I call on someone I realise they may or may not want to talk, their choice. I don't mind.

We do the witnessing work in obedience to Jesus' command found at Mat.28:19,20:"Go therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations,.......teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you."
Jesus warned his disciples that they too, like himself would be 'objects of hatred'(Mat10:22)
We know that as the end of this system draws ever closer that people will be less and less responsive. However we continue to do this life saving work until Jehovah God tells us to stop.
We are also fulfilling scripture mainly Mat24:14 which reads:" This good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth, for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come".

Don't worry. It happened to a lot of our missionaries most of the time. We are trained to shrug it off right away. If people aren't interested, they just aren't and no reason to waste any further time.
Heck, some people hide behind couches away from the window and try to not make a freaking sound so we'll think they're not home.
