it is about the size of a new ten pence piece,it has a mk1 male tank in the middle,on the back it has a screw thread with a round threaded washer,it is made of brass,it looks like a first world war pin badge

It sounds like it is a branch insignia. It marked the originally owner as a tank crewman.

Royal Tank Regiment, but if its a pin badge its unlikely to be from WW1

T he Royal Tank Regiments had a cap badge which had the first tank(willie0 on it surrouded by a wreath of laurel leaves
by the way you discribe it itb could be a lapel badge worn by the officers they had one on each lapel

sounds like a medal for a mechinized tank unit since tanks were brand new in that war
