As I understand it, the reason would be because most practice or worship is done in the night. So to keep yourself concealed, you would dress in black to blend in with the darkness of the night.

The way I was taught was that white is used for protection in Wicca, black is used for banishing and binding. Dont know where you got these ideas, you need more study.

Also White is symbolically used to represent the Goddess and black is symbolically used to represent the God. Unless you are talking about the Crone Goddess (old woman) In our Trinity, then you would have White for the Maiden Goddess, Gray for the Maid Goddess, and black for the Crone Goddess.

We do all kinds of color magick for instance Blue is for healing and Green is for luck and properity.

If you would like to know more, simply contact me.

Blessings,
Aviana

Now some traditions also teach that black is protection.

Dont know about colors in Christian teachings.

Black absorbs without being changed.

Also, white isn't a colour of protection according to Christians, they just wear it to show that they are "Spiritually clean"

Black sometimes symbolizes the absorption and nullification of all the other colors ... therefore the absorption and nullification of all negative energy, providing protection.

Black is for protection from negativity. Or for banishing. (Generally.)

White is for protection in general or for purifying. (Generally.)

I have no idea what the Christians use for color symbolism...

Wicca has got to be the stupidest religion since Islam. Get back on your broom, Harry Potter.
Oh God, I hope you don't hex me. Wicca is for friendless nerds and smelly virgin goths who believe that Dungeons and Dragons is real.
