Recently bought a 5.9 V8 Ramcharger, (1978), and on the drive home, the motor threw a rod. Cant say i didnt expect it, the engine looks terrible. anyhow, I found, i believe an 86 with a 5.2...

Though im not sure if the crank is a 6, or 8 bolt..

Would i be able to just drop this engine right in and go? or..?

Thanks.

Everything will bolt up the same. The big thing is the 360 is externally balanced and the 318 is internally balanced. You can knock the weights off the torque converter and you should be good to go I did this on my Ram Charger When it was converted from a 360 to a 318 police.

The 440 replace will favor truck oil pan, pickup tube, eng mounts, ex manifolds, and so on and a huge block transmission (not because of internals notwithstanding the small block trans gained't bolt as a lot because it). by no skill made the replace myself, yet skill brake booster will be an challenge. The manufacturing facility equipped 440 ramchargers until eventually 1979 so there are parts obtainable someplace. you are able to also construct a four hundred plus inch small block.

The boltup is exactly the same with both engines, only a few electronic changes are necessary.
Use the distributor off the 360 in the swap.

efferel is pretty much spot on,only major fidderence is if the 5.2 is using the early fuel injection,in which case youll need a few parts from the donor vehicle to make it work correctly ( things like the computer, fuel pump etc)

1 st check the motor mount locations the 5.2 is a smaller block
2. check the connection to see if the block and tranny will mount to the bolt locationsion the tranny.
