1. enlistment bonuses should be in your contract, most likely for combat arms MOS's.

2.First is a Physical Fitness assessment, by the time you leave basic, you should be able to score 50% on each of the PT Test events.

3. Boot camp is a mind game! listen and ask plenty of questions, learn as much as you can, don't give any of the Basic Training personnel any "attitude" or you will severely suffer the consequences, Get used to Team work!

I don't know about the modern barracks, when I went thru, we still had community showers & crappers, like in the gyms.
I'm sure there are shower stalls and lockable doors in the latrines.

Good luck to you and thank you for serving!

1) Bonus payments depend on your MOS(job), how long you enlist for, where you are enlisting for, etc. The recruiter would have the details on this personally I think it's wrong that new enlistee's get grea bonuses these days and SNCO's get nothing! But hey......

2) Boot camp is NOT the same as it used to be. It is still hard physically and mentally but DI's haven't been allowed to touch you (hit, etc) in a very long time. You will be able to do the pushups or you will do remedial pt until you can pass. By the way being "to tired" is not an excuse you will be pushed to your limits and beyond.

3) You aren't there for privacy you're there to become a soldier - the DI's are there to HELP you. May not seem like it at times but they are. After (if) you graduate things get better but don't expect to be treated like a person with rights while you're in boot! You have no rights - the Army takes them all away and gives/you earn them back as privleges.

Enlistment bonuses are based on the MOS (job) that you choose/get and how long you choose to enlist for. Many jobs now have a bonus, however the highest bonuses go to Medical, Intelligence and Combat Arms specialites. You get the first payment after you are awarded your mos which means after bootcamp and AIT. You get 50% and thereafter every year on your anniversary you get another piece.

When you get to bootcamp, You will enter Reception, where you get processed. You are required to pass a shorter version of the PT test. If you fail to pass (and it's a joke, so you should be fine) you will be held on to the special PT program until you are able to perform that standard. Then you will be shipped off to a training battalion and that's when the hard work really begins.

There is no such thing as privacy. Do not bring things that could get you in trouble such as candy or as one girl in my class did - sex toys.
She never heard the end of it particularly as the 1SG hung it up outside his office. You will be required to shower next to people in stalls without shower curtains. Don't be worried because most people are trying to get their biz done, no one is concentrating on anyone else.

Here's some tips: Be where you need to be, when you need to be there and in the right uniform. Have a positive attitude. Give 100%, don't be afraid of the Drill Sergeants. Show them respect and military courtesy. Help your battle buddies out and they will help you. And most of all enjoy it. Not everyone gets to fire grenade launchers and anti-tank missle launchers.

My son just joined 3 weeks ago and got a $20.000 bonus. He hates boot camp, but everybody does. They push you very hard and you pretty much have to forget about privacy. The purpose of boot camp is to break you down and build you back up again strong and sure of yourself. I did it 37 years ago and am still glad I did. Of course I would have not said that when I was there, you just have to suck it up. It is not summer camp but after training you wont be treated that way.

you bonus depends on your mos. like a truck driver gets 10 to 20 thousand for a bonus. theres one where you get a freind to sign up after you join and you get 2 thousand, and reenlistment bonuses, theres even one if you join in high school you get a graduation bonus. thats the only one i got! dont worry about basic training. its easy. just have fun with it because it will be your most fun moment in your career

Millions of young people have been through basic training. Most, including myself. were a little scared about it beforehand. Just go for it and resolve to do your best. You will come out just fine.

Trust me. The first time somebody shoots at you, you will wish to God you were back at boot camp.

If you are weak, they will strengthen you. Forget about privacy.

I think the military still spells "bonus" as two words (bone-us).

You should serve your country from the heart. (Note: The Iraqi insurgents fight for free....They fight from the heart) If one must be "paid" in order to serve then I know we will not win in Iraq.
