Biopsy: Excision, for examination, of a small amount of tissue from a living body to determine the presence of disease. Also, the tissue excised is called a biopsy.
Blood: Considered a circulating tissue composed of a fluid portion (plasma) with suspended formed elements (red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets).
Yes, the term blood biopsy is fine, just not commonly used.

I'm no doctor but I've always heard that called a blood test/analysis. A biopsy is when they dig around for tissue. Whatever it is, I'm sure the person who took the sample wasn't a real doctor (just a tech or nurse) and probably just mixed up his or her words. I wouldn't worry about it. I've met some pretty stupid nurses in my life.

A blood biopsy is a chem panel and CBC. Blood IS a tissue. But blood tests aren't really a subject for the infectious disease category.

As for "Leecavcu"'s comments - wasn't a REAL doctor...JUST a tech or nurse...I've met some pretty stupid nurses in my life.

Wasn't a REAL doctor. Is that supposed to mean that techs & nurses are FAKE doctors? JUST a tech or nurse. What? Are we second-class citizens now? As for stupid nurses, the patients and families I've met top any nurse YOU'VE ever met. Your comments reflect gross ignorance. If this woman's husband had his blood drawn in a doctor's office, the chances are it was a medical assistant who drew it but he probably went to a draw station where a phlebotomist did the draw. In any case, blood biopsy is correct! How would YOU know what's correct or incorrect????!
