im thinking about joining the Navy and can't decide on which job i want to go with.. i've been doing film work for a couple years, so i thought about going w/ the News and Media, but was unsure if it'd be one of the lower paying jobs... i know on the navy site it has a small figure, but does anyone know anything about this job first or second hand?

one,all ratings pay the same(by paygrade/rank) not by the job itself.

Two: the rating you are talking about is MC: Mass Communications Specialist. It's pretty full, and the chances of actually being offered it are slim. It's the result of a recent merge between 4 old ratings and as such is going through some growing pains. Promotion rates are in a state of flux right now while they figure out exactly how many they need at each paygrade.

Three: which ratings you qualify for are based on the line scores of your ASVAB. Again, you would only be offered that job if there was an open slot. and if you score well enough, they will push you towards ratings they have a great need for.

Actually, I inquired a few summers ago about a job with the navy in news media. I don't recall the pay -- it being substantial or very low -- but I do know that only about 1 or 2 candidates are accepted to do this job each year (and it's hardly a woman, which was my downfall).

I would check with your local naval office. But be wary, once they know you're interested, they will NEVER leave you alone. 2 1/2 years later I'm still getting phone calls asking whether or not I'm still interesteding joining the ranks, after which I've told them I am not. But you've gotta give it to the Navy for keeping tabs and being on top of things! :-)

My whole fam is Navy -- dad went to the academy, bro is there now, and my mom was a Navy nurse. GO NAVY and Goodluck!
