Here's the standings:
Jeff Gordon- leader
Jimmy Johnson - 9 back
Clint Bowyer - 63 back
Tony Stewart - 154 back
I don't think Bowyer can hang with the top two! He has had a good late run this year, but I don't think it will continue. If Tony has trouble this weekend he's done!
This is why I don't like the Chase format? Here we are with five races to go after this weekend and we are really only looking at two cars owned by the same team as being the most likley winner of the Championship! One of the HMS cars may have trouble ( DNF ) before the Chase is over, but I'll bet they both don't!
Gordon and / or Johnson can't wrap this thing up this weekend, but at the very least, one of them will widen the points gap!
I hope I haft to eat my words!
This race is critical for Stewart and Bowyer!
Anything can happen!
But that's the way I see it!!!

THE ONLY THING IS SAT WILL BE INTERESTING WITH THE COT
TRUE HENDRICKS IS AHEAD BUT THE OTHER GUYS ARE CATCHING UP WITH THE COT!!
JEFF AND JIMMY CAN HAVE A BAD DAY
BUT TONY AND BOWYER NEEDS A GOOD FINISH!!
JEFF OR JIMMY WILL BE UP FRONT AND THE WAY THESE GUYS ARE RACING IT JUST MAY BE BOTH!!

I think that the Championships is going to be between two guys: Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. I think that Bowyer needs to start being more consistent if he wants to contend. Also Tony is running a very fine line. If your more then 150 points back by next week I think that it is going to be safe to say that you are more then likely out of it unless you do what Jimmie Johnson did last year which is definitely possible. However I think that some of the bottom guys are definitely eliminated already.
I personally dont like how the points are reset as Jeff Gordon would have more then a 400 point lead over everyone if the Chase did not exist. I love that fact as I am a huge Jeff Gordon fan. I hope that this championship, which he deserves, is not robbed of him, like the one Kurt Busch won in 2004, that was meant for Gordon, in my opinion. Both are owned by the same organization, yes, but Gordon owns some equity in Johnson's car and very little in the entire HMS organization. I think Gordon deserves and is going to win it. He is the best there is. Go #24!!!!

I hope the points tighten up after Charlotte, but HMS always has a chance to win the championship. No matter what format is used, they have the best of everything, including terrific drivers. The thing I actually like about the Chase is that it tightens things before those last 10 races. We've seen in other series when a driver runs away with the points, long before the end of the season and the championship is pretty well over at that point. It's like any sport that has a 'play off' type deal. I admit NASCAR isn't as exciting as once was, but I like the Chase.

I hope Bowyer hangs in there, he and Reutimann are my drivers. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in any case.

No, I don't think just yet. Last year Johnson had a couple bad races. He had a drive through penalty and a gas shortage in Kansas that cost him the race, and he wrecked big time in Dega. He was in seventh in the chase standings at that time. He still won the championship. I wouldn't count Stewart or Bowyer out. If Jimmie and Jeff have a couple bad races and the other guys don't, it will put them right back in the thick of things.

The race at Charlotte will just be that much more exciting , because anything can happen. Gordon and Johnson are just as succeptible to catastrophe just like any of the other cars. The odds dictate them as being predominant, but the future can change in a heartbeat, even while it's happening. And cranking it up to the intensity of a NASCAR race at Charlotte is sure to have you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see it's outcome.

If Dale Jr doesn't win, I want Bowyer to win, and Jeff and Jimmie have mulligans this weekend its time for them to not finish a race in the chase, lets tighten up the points and make it interesting, since we have to put up with this chase thing anyway...Anything can happen thats for sure.....

Go Dale Jr Go...win at Lowes...

It's not over till it's over.. but I'd say right now it's a lock between HMS and RCR.. w/ Bowyer slowly losing pace.

You never know. I think the chase format is a bug blunder, and with addition of COT races are getting more boring, it is almost not worth watching anymoe, they have taken control from the drivers and taken the race out of racing
